Default FI Valves....

At what point would it be a good idea to upgrade valves over a aftermarket stainless? I made 920 rwhp on a mustang dyno on stock valves and dont want a valve failure to hurt something else. TIA

I was thinking about that also..... i know its spendy to go with Titanium Intake and Inconel exhaust....
If i remember right its $600 more for Titanium valves over Stainless

If that is the case I will be sticking with titanium.

I think you might be there now actually. I went with Inconel exhaust valves for my current AllPro heads.

Im not big on the metalurgical properties or suitabilities of titanium etc...

But Inconel exhaust valves are the preferred material for turbo exhaust valves.

The inconel is preffered material in our turbo builds because of its durability in high temperature applications. That being said, if I was going to try and run something else GM factory valves would be high on my list.

Do you know off hand what brand Inconel valves you guys use and how much a set are??

Really? I had no idea, the factory GM valves will hold up better then a stainless?

We use Ti intake valves for weight reduction in high rpm engines. Stainless intake valves are fine if the rpm is kept reasonable, and the spring can control the valve. What starts to drive the choice is the engines intended use. Once you start getting into the larger diameter valves and the stems are getting longer to help with set-up heights for performance springs and high lift cams, then the valve just gets heavy. Eventually the hard core "gotta have it all" racer is using the ti valves to help feed his addiction for rpm to get on "the good side" of the math. I buy car parts like some people buy drugs, I just can't stop!!

The factory valve is stainless, and has been tested heavily by GM for durability. Although there are some very good aftermarket parts, some of them could not make it through a OE durability test.
I am not saying that a aftermarket part is no good, I am just saying it is not automaticly better just because its aftermarket.
Hopefully I got my point across, I always did bad in spelling and writing!!

Know anyone that could make a very small run of some small diameter Inconel valves ?

Ferrea or Rev would be the most likely to make a custom valve for you. What do you need that is odd?

It would be a small diameter 31mm, 6mm stem exhaust valve for a turbocharged A-series Mini engine.
