Lightbulb New guy with a BMW.

Hey guys! I've got a 1997 BMW 328i, into which I hope to swap an LS6 and the T56 6speed. I was recommended to this forum by guys on bimmerforums.com, hoping to get some info on the easiest/best bolt-ons and whatnot that can increase power, efficiency, and reliability of the LS6.

Okay, here goes some hardcore browsing.

Welcome, make sure to post pics of the swap! I would suggest you get an LS2 unless you already have the LS6, or can get a good deal because it will be a little more price than an LS2. Good luck!

hmmm... I like it. Make those new M3 owners cry when they realize their recycled last-gen M5 engine still isn't enough

What advantages does the LS2 have over the LS6? My buddy is convinced that the LS6 would be the best price/performance/availability ratio between LSx engines. What would you guys do?

Seriously, though. I'm a poor college student right now, but am saving, and I intend to do this right. However, the more expensive it is, the longer it will be until the project starts. Also, if I'm going to get 40 more hp for 3 times the money, it's just not worth it to me.

I'm really looking at a price/performance ratio that will make sense. Any LSX motor is going to provide phenomenal performance in an e36 compared to the underpowered inline 6's that come in them.

So which has the best price/performance ratio?

LS6 is most definetly more expencive, I think a brand new crate would be around $7-8000, while the LS2 is around $5,000.
If im not mistaken the LS2 makes more low end power too, while making the same high end power. You cant go wrong with either engines.

FYI, LS2 = 400hp, LS7 = 500hp.

Why not just go with an LS1 they are very powerful and not too too expensive. You can prob get a tranny and motor for 3gs and be low miles. LS2 which has more power and more cubes that will run you like 5gs. So its kinda if you wana spend the extra money then ya go4 it. But for performance/ price ratio LS1=
