Greetings, i have a 2001 M6 Z28, has a lid and flow-disaster muffler. i have , until this month, had cheapo tires on the car so i had not run it over 90, i bought some khumos from a sponsor (exec tires too) and i went out to try about 120.
i hit 115 and my car hits what i think is a govenor or rev limiter. please tell me this is an easy fix LOL
any ideas?

I have heard of this happening before but i forget what the cause of it is. Check your door stickers and see what speed rating your factory tires were. As I understand it that will determine what your govener is set at. If its "Z" it should be something like 160, I forget exactly what it is. Also you need to be in 5th gear to top out the car, 6th is overdrive. I'm not sure whether or not that would effect your speed down around 115 or not though. Hopefully somebody with more information could help more than I can.

From my memory, chevy limited the speed on z28's and convertibles to at or around 110 (so 115 is no surprise), unless you opted for z rated tires. If your z was ordered with the speed rated tires, then you would be telling us how your car went thru 150 mph and climbing.
Its probably something that you could correct if you wanted: Programming /speed limiter/ and of course new tires.

Is your car a vert? If so the top speed is limited to 118 from the factory. As stated, programing can be used to alter this.

Speed limited at 120mph for a vert, I don't think so! Try a programer to see where your limiter is set. I've done speedo + in my 02' vert.

The correct answer was already stated. If the car was not built with the Z rated tires it had the lower speed cutoff. If the car came with the 235/55/16 Goodyear Eagle GA then it will have the cutoff and the 115 speedometer, and I believe 2.73 gears. However the 2.73 was also used on Z rated option cars.

Yep, check the tire info on the door - my car came w/2.73 and Z rated tires. Tire rating is the difference.

No the dealer will no do this for you, you will have to get a tuner, I dont know if the hand helds are able to do this or if you need someone who can tune it out. 5th gear is going to give you your top speed your car stock wont have enough power to push 6th..

This guy has a car that was not equipped with the Z Rated tires from the Factory. Therefore it has the 115 speedometer and the MPH cutoff.
