Question Which tires/DR's for my app?

I've had my KDW's on my stock SS (17x9.5)wheels for a couple years now because I drive the car so little and they don't hook for crap. I'm finally getting a bit tired of it and not being able to utilize my 500rwhp on the street. Don't get me wrong, I love the tread life as they still have at least 50% left, but I punched it from a 30mph roll in 2nd against an EVO VIII and it just lit up the tires till halfway through 3rd. The EVO smoked me, although it was far from stock with 360awhp and DR's, but it did still smoke me. This should not be happening. So, moving on to where I am now...

I drive the car probably once or twice a week around town and on the highway and certainly get a few spirited runs in every now and then. It sees rain occasionally so I'd prefer to have a tire that won't act like I'm on ice when I'm in the rain, but I can certainly deal with a tire that wasn't exactly meant for the rain. I'm looking to hook. I'm not looking to DEAD hook (such as with ET Streets) but I am looking for something that won't cause me such embarrassment as I was involved in in the prior story. So far, I've been looking at Nitto 555 DR's and the BFG G-force TA KD's. It doesn't need to have a great tread life as the car doesn't get driven that much and has yet to see the track, but at the same time I don't want something that will wear out in 5k miles of easy driving either.

So, this is where I am. I'd like to have some input from you all on which ones would suit me best in this situation. I do still have the stock rear and I don't want to be breaking it any time soon by putting on super sticky tires (although it is inevitable at some point),.so I'm looking to reach a compromise. If you're still reading at this point, I applaud you. Thanks in advance.

BGF's will hook better and break the rear sooner and wear faster

Nittos are better in the rain last longer and your rear will also last longer but dont hook as well

I vote Nittos because of stock rear

My opinion:

You're going to light up ANY street tire at your power level, so the only thing that's going to come close to holding is a drag radial. Problem with drag radials is nobody makes one that will accommodate all the requirements you listed. You're going to have to compromise on something. If it were me, I'd choose between a nitto drag and BFG drag. Because tread life and wet weather performance seems more important to you, a nitto dr would probably suit you best. Even a nitto will have trouble holding 500rwhp, but will be waaaay better than any street tire.

nittos arent all that bad. i have the 315 version on my zr1's and they hook just fine in the dry when cold even. in the wet (havent tried anything dumb) they are just fine. ive never felt uneasy in the rain with them or felt the rear let go, and ive got about 5k miles on mine. grooves are nice and deep on them too.

Nitto drags work OK as far as traction goes, but they are much better daily driver type tires than the other brands of drag radial. If there is a chance that your car will see rain, stick with the Nittos. They're a good tire.

How's the tread life life on the Nitto's. Right now I'm running a nitto 285 and have been flirting with the idea of a 315 for the back but my car is a driver and I'm looking for a tire that will last. I want to stay with a nitto though so i can keep matching tread patterns.

Supposedly it's pretty good, something like 12-15k unless you track it a lot.

Alright, so should I go with 275's or 285's since the nitto's run a bit smaller? These are the 35th anniv. ss wheels they'll be mounted on.

bringing this one back up. Have you got the Nitto's on the car yet or no? I have 1500 miles on my MT DR's which are almost slicks now lol

I have been thinking of running the Nitto DR but am afraid of eating up the tire too fast.

are the nitto 285's a 40r17, or 35r17...i have a ws6 with stock rims and no i cant fit the 315 on there, but i dont like how skinny the 275's are. Where can you find them, and exactly what size are the nitto 285s?

I have yet to see a 285 for a 17" wheel. If you know of a place, please advise.

Yeah. I figured something got lost in translation. I'm still undecided though as to whether I want to pick some of these nitto's up for an intermediate fix or wait for the whole shebang when I do the shortened rear and bogart RR's with bigger lips than bubba from forrest gump.
