today is the start of the conversion
pulled the motor out of the jeep today and its sitting at Overkill Motorsports waiting for Rob to weld up the engine mounts and I am waiting for a few more parts before he can do that.
should look pretty nice once the 5.3 is mounted in there.
so far I am just waiting on the flywheel, pressure, plate, clutch and some linkages...
Gonna try and get down to the shop and pressure wash the jeep because it has 30 years of grease on it and paint the inner fenderwells and firewall...

I have seen most people using the GM autos with the swap.
I am sticking with the T-18 tranny because it was put in 1/2 ton, 3/4 ton and 1 ton trucks so it will be plenty strong.
I'm gonna be using an ls1 pressure plate and flywheel with the jeep Centerforce clutch disk and Novak's hydraulic clutch release.
I haven't any people use the jeep tranny so I am excited to see how its gonna turn out.

For the engine I am gonna keep it stock for now just to get it up and running. Once I get it up and running I am gonna swap to an ls1 intake but I need to get an ls1 water pump and other front end accessories to make it work. Also plane to do some JBA headers, plugs and wires and other small stuff...
The motor already has almost 3 times the power the 4.2 has so it doesn't need a whole lot of performance upgrades.
I have a 4 inch lift sitting in my garage waiting to go on but i wanna do new axles and stuff first.
go ahead and send a pic of the tranny I'll see if I can dig up some info on it.

My customer wants about 400whp to start with, so I'm poking around looking for good camshafts for the 6.0. probably going to have to go with a better intake manifold.
It will be tomarrow on the tranny pics.

well I saw a website that says they stopped using the heavy duty trannies in 1980...
Here is a tranny that would be awesome though...
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/FORD-...ayphotohosting
the ford t18a...all you need to do is swap the bell housing, use an ls1 pressure plate and flywheel with the jeep disk...
Also the ford T18a has the 6.32:1 granny gear where as the jeep t18 like mine has a 4.xx :1
if you want 400hp all you need is maybe an ls6 manifold, headers, and a small cam
check out my sig for what my camaro did with just the stock intake, headers and the TR 224/224 114lsa 350rwhp and 373rwtq on the stock tune
