sounds like pitting to me, you may or may not be able to get em off with elbow grease, it depends how deep it goes

It sounds like its just some surface pitting. If you dont have any chrome polish, go pick some up ASAP. Little elbow grease and time is all it'll take to get that out. If you have a powerball, it might not be AS hard to get off...but I'd try the hand method first being it sounds light and sporadic.

+1. Get some Mothers chrome polish and you should see at least a big improvement if it doesn't solve the problem completely.

I get this all the time now on my OEM rims. It's mostly heavy build up of brake material, (yrs I cheaped out last time I replaced the pads) It wasnt really a problem for the wheel cleaner I used to use, (Greased Lightining Orange Blast) but the cleaner is no longer made. Go figure: A comany makes a product that actually works, then discontinues it..sheesh!
Untill I change the pads out again, I just scrub them with SOS pads (lightly!), then polish.

Like kmbracer said, it could be brake dust. The rain may have collected it into dots instead of an even coating of dust.

its brake dust.. some chrome polish and elbow grease should take it off...

but if its been a really long time you may not be able to get it all off they may be pitted

If it were brake dust just about any degreaser would work getting it off. Even heavy build up, if you let it sit on there for a couple of seconds and use a wheel brush it'll just wash right off.

This sounds more like light pitting IMO. Figuring pin/nail head sized marks, that'll easilly come off with polish and elbow grease. Figure larger spots or an entire area (say on a Z06 wheel, the lower valley by the hub or in between spokes) a Powerball will be a lifesaver. Either way, chrome polish = cheap insurance.

I had the same stuff, (I think) on my OEM rims. I used Goo Gone, and this brake degreaser/cleaner with a brush. Took some time but they came off.

If they are chrome don't use SOS pads or abrasives. I like Eagle One Never Dull. Comes in a silver can, bunch of cotton wadding and solvent.
