General LSX Automobile Discussion - Gas Tank Date Stamp - Is this the build date?

On the rear back portion of the gas tank (Trans Am) there is a stencil type date painted in black with numbers about 1/2" tall. I know the old vettes and other GM cars use to put this and other data on the top of the tank.

Is this still the build date of our vehicles?

I would think its the actual date the tank was molded/assembled.
