Default Wanting to log runs...newbie

I'm sure this has been asked a million times, but I can't seem to find or choose what would be best for my situation. I'm going to speed density here pretty soon and would like to monitor/log the car. Pretty much just want to scan/delete codes, and watch A/F ratio, and anything you think should be logged. Don't know if a computer program would be best or not. Would the laptop have to ride with me down the track? I'm not sure what's all available and don't want to buy an expensive thing that I can't use most of. Sorry for the NEWBIE thread, just hoping the vast knowledge of LS1tech can point me in the right direction.....

Chris

P.S., I'm not tuning the car myself

EFILive flashscan 2 with the cool handheld device will probably suit you well.
You will need a wideband O2 sensor too to monitor AFR.
