Default L76 L92 comp. ratio

I am looking for advice on whether it is worth removing the heads from my L76 engine to have them milled to increase the cr. It is quoted as 10.1 -1, and I want to fit a fast road cam to increase the HP from the (flywheel) factory 350 to around 530+.
Will I be able to get this power without raising CR, or not?

You can probably get to 500 fwhp by opening up the intake tract and the exhaust. Mill the heads about .030 and you should get to 11:1 which is safe on pump gas unless the cam that you select has a high DCR.

The 6.0 L76 engine is in a brand new Chevy Lumina Ute in South Africa. I bet i will need more than 10.1 to get over 500HP, so i think i will go for a 230 /234 ish cam and content myself with just around the 500 level, and not mess with the heads- I've just learned i can change the cam without taking off the intake, how good is that!
I can always add a bit of nitrous......

You might want to triple check that as L76's come with 2 types of lifters and Active Fuel Management.

2 things will need to be changed (no scratch that)...

All kinds of things will need to be changed.

First off you'll need to pull the manifold and heads to take out the AFM components (solinoids in the valley and afm lifters).

With the heads off have them deck'd .030" to drop the chamber size to 64cc (going by SLP stating that shaving the stock 72cc heads .030" drops the chambers to 64cc, see slp l92 thread).
And get a set of springs installed while the heads are off.
Cap off/fill the oil feeds in the valey and drop in a set of LS1/2/7 lifters into the motor, after putting in the cam of your choice.

Or you can keep AFM and get a custom cam ground that will be within spec of the AFM lifters max lift.
You will still need a set of springs with a custom AFM cam, as the stock springs are only good to around .525" lift.

Why the hell didn't GM bring that to the US -vs- the *** tastic Chevy SSR?

Thanks a lot for the info, but i am confident the active fuel managment and variable cam timing are not fitted to the Australian and hence South African spec engines. (I am glad). It looks like there are a few diferent specs around which are all called the L76, i've seen CRs quoted as 9.4, 10.1, 10.4, and I have no idea how these diferent CRs come about if the engines all use flat top pistons and the same (L92) heads. any ideas???
It is such a new engine that its not surprising there is not much info out there to go on, but the speed at which people are gaining insight into how to make the L92 heads make power is very good news for owners of these vehicles.

Good to see a fellow South African on the board Nice looking ride, I love those UTE's, been trying to talk my Dad into buying a Lumina SS back at home (they still live in SA). I am originally from Befordview just outside Joburg.

Sounds like you have some nice plans for that UTE, this is a great site to be on for info, I am more on the LT1/LT4 board, but the guys on here are great
