Default Help me decide on Final Cam.

Now keep in mind I'll be adding a double roller timing chain and a better oil pump while I'm down there. I will also be looking for some new heads possibly the AFR 205's or a good set of 243's if I can find em cheap enough. The engine has 140k miles and I'll have a stock bottom end. I think either cam would be a nice setup for what I'm trying to achieve. I don't want a ridiculous lope but want that good mid range horsepower. The reason the engine is apart is because I bent some pushrods downshifting like an idiot The piston heads hit the valves pretty hard and just scratched the face of tree of the pistons. I'm pretty sure my pistons are fine but I'm not pulling the block to find out. I'm down to 2 cam decisions...

Comp Cam 224/228 .581/.588 114 LSA

or

Comp Cam 230/228 .591/.588 112LSA

the AFR's are a great head,i had them. you can go more cam and still drive the same around town. from your choices id go the 224/228 on a 112. you could go 228/232 or 231/237 make some more power and like i said drive the same after a tune. i had 5-different cams from a little 222 cam all the way to a 240/244 111 cam. i'd go a little bigger,if you do when you drive it,you'll be happy.

How about a 233/233 .600/.600 113lsa? Or would that be too much for my stock valvetrain to handle?

I'm pretty sure a TRex cam would warrant a 4.10 rear or something quite a bit more durable than the stock rear end I have right now. I'm not sure if I'm up to the task to changing out the gears in the rear end right now...

Who spec'd that cam out?

You will need a steeper gear just because the way the cam is ground. IT will be a D-O-G if you go that big and keep a stock ratio. Welcome to having to row gears when you make higher power and steeper gears though.

Honestly I would go with a 230/232 cam or something of the like with 590's and 112-114.

Have you ever driven a major cammed car? Don't suggest that cam to people being serious.

224/228 112 LSA is what I got. Now to wait on the 16 pen magnets I ordered to hold the lifters up then I'll be able to put it in

I did, and yes I have driven a rediculous loped cam car. I may go F10 on a 112 though. I mean, I am doing 4.10s regardless. But I got a damn good deal on some LS6 heads, still a toss up, I cannot decide, .

The hotcam has rediculous lope for what it is.

I said major CAMMED...not major LOPE. There is a difference. We are talking solid roller.
