I will probably be going cam first, then possibly heads (PRC or Livernois STG 1 LS6)later.I want a stealthy idle/and need to pass SMOG in CALI so I will go 114 LS or 116,and I guess have some ADVANCE ground in to bring the curve back in line .Which one is better and how more power will the 228-232 make at what cost to driveability with mods in sig?

If you need to pass smog in California, the cutoff for overlap seems to be around -6 degrees at .050". None of the cams you're considering will do that. If you are truly wanting to have a cam that will pass the sniffer, you have to change your mindset and think more like an OEM and less like a hardcore4sure racer.

Why are you worried about smog when you don't have cats?

I got the cats,I can just switch the pipes when it's time.I'm not trying to think like a hardcore racer,I did have a TR224 114 AFR headed SS and it passed smog.I liked it but thought that the COMP XER lobes made a little more power and wanted a little extra on the exhaust lobe since I'm running shorties.I've been told by a couple people that since I've got some extra cubes with the LS2 that a 228-232 may be a better way to go,but I question if it will pass smog.I am not looking for max all out power obviously, just want the best cam/most power, without loosing good part throttle response, idle characteristics, over all street manners.Patrick G can you recommend something then, maybe 224-228 115 or 116,I know your are affiliated with Thunder and I definitely wouldn't hesitate to go back as I've always been very happy with their products and service.
:jest: ??? Whats so funny???

i have seen a 224 -228 on a 112 pass smog, the cut-off on overlap seems is to be 0 degrees, not -6, i actually personally seen a old MMS 229 cam on a 113 lsa pass, it was completely on the edge, and had to tune to suit it. being your ls2 engine having the ls2 computer (very easy to tune) you might be able to go slightly larger, like a 226 on 114 lsa, but wouldnt go anymore then that

What is so different from a TR 224 114 to the 224-228 114 or 115 that would cause so much over lap that it would fail?Is lifting to say .590 or .595 worth the extra spring fatigue, for power
