I blew the motor on my 96 Vette with a 6 psi Votech with 8K on the odo. However I had an FMU, and the timing was managed by a Crane box with boost retard, not the best setup. When I blew it, I did something stupid. I down shifted (A4) and pegged the rev limiter under full boost.
I think with a safe tune checked by a wideband, you can get by for a while with 8 psi intercooled.

I am running 9 psi on stock LT1. I have 60 passes on her and a ton of dyno time, still together.
