Default 3.8 -> LS1 can I keep the M5?

Title basically says it all. I'm finally starting my search for a Camaro. With the price differences I'm finding between the V6 and V8 models, I'm trying to figure out if it might be worth doing a later V8 swap or just saving a few more dollars and getting the Z28. In order to really do that, I need to know if I can cheap out at first and plug the LS1 into the 3.8's 5 speed. I have a strong feeling it doesn't, but anyone know for sure? Thanks in advance.

even if you could you grenade the tranny after getting on it a couple of times....the T5's arent made to handle the torque of the LS1, it would tear up that tranny very quickly, just get a V8

+1 By the time you are done the swap it would have been easier to sell and get a LS1.

i think the input shaft is smaller and has a course spline and is way to weak for an ls1

you can get a LT1 z28 now for the pprice of a 98-02 3.8...hell you can prolly find a built one for around 9k with decent milage. 5 speeds wont work with a 350 and if you havent got a camaro yet dont do a swap. Just get one that has a v8 in it.

even if you could get it to mate up, you'd taco 3rd gear in a hurry. Those T5's barely could hold up on a 205hp stock 5.0 mustang.
