Default Timing cover gasket?

Do I need to buy a new timing cover gasket or can I just use gasket maker? which is what is mentioned in the LS1 how-to guide.
What about for the port holes? They have the little rectangle and circular gaskets on there right now and Not that i will reuse them but they honestly look brand new! Can i just use gasket maker on the whole thing? I did buy that 22.00 main seal though.

I'd reuse the old gaskets before I'd use gasket maker. I've done over 50 cam installs and have never replaced a timing cover gasket. I always use new water pump gaskets and crank seal though. Put a dab of sealer in the corners where the cover meets the oil pan.

Ditto for me. The LS1 engine was designed with that in mind.

Okay what about the water pump gaskets? I dont know what the hell I was thinking when I posted this but thats what i was talking about. Can I just reuse them? They are the ones that look brand new. The rectangle and curcular ones... or can I use gasket maker?
Thing is, I should have the car put back together tonight and would rather not spend any more money on gaskets if i dont have to.

If it were low mileage, I'd probably let the timing cover slide. High mileage, I'd probably just change it.

And I always get new WP gaskets.

You could check with AutoZone or something similar, but I'm not sure they carry them.

I always just ordered mine from a sponsor.

Surely someone around town would carry them.

I have always used new gaskets on everything just because they are cheap. I believe o'reilly's carries the water pump gaskets though.

I just called autozone and he said he only has the retangular ones for the water pump and they are 14.00 each!!! WTF!

Shouldnt i need 4 for the water pump? Just for the port holes? I'm not in my garage looking at it right now so i cant tell for sure but 14.00 each isnt cheap to me! thats 60.00 on water pump gaskets.

Orielly's only has the metal water pump gasket and not the o ring. They sale them for 7.00 each. Are we all talking about the same thing here?

How many ******* gaskets are on the water pump? On only remember seing 2 orange round and 2 orange rectangluar gaskets when i pulled it off. They were from the port holes and they look like gasket maker. Are these NOT the gaskets that i need?

What am i looking for?

okay, well I called the dealership and they said they have a few although they wont do me any good because they wont be open when I get off tonight. I need them tonight.
When i called autozone he said he had a few of the retangle or squar gaskets but didnt have the O-ring. Dealership said there isnt an o-ring for the ls1 water pump, only the lt1.

I'm getting mixed info from everywhere i turn and I need to know what the hell i need to buy with in about an hour.

CAN ANYONE TELL ME EXACTLY WHAT WATER PUMP GASKET(S), O-RINGS, WHATEVER IT MAY BE THAT I NEED TO PUT MY WATER PUMP BACK ON???

There should be two separate gaskets. Each one is a metal "plate" with a round port with gasket and a square port with gasket inside. If I remember correctly they are identical.

Not a problem. Make sure you torque the bolts to the right specs when putting the water pump back on. You are threading them into aluminum and you don't want the pump to leak.

I called O'rielly's and they do have them. 6.99 each. isnt bad i guess.

Also, i have a little POS vsual torque wrench that i got from autozone. It sits at 20lbs instead of 0 when not being used so i just subtract 20 from the numbers. lol...

Maybe she'll be a Run'r tonight after all...
