Default Gasket... Or No Gasket?

hey guys i was wondering if i could just use RTV sealant on my stock 10 bolt. im changing gears and the carrier soon and have plenty of RTV sitting around. thx guys!

I used rtv the first time I did it, and I think I tightened the bolts to much, because all it did after I drove it was leak. I have a gasket with rtv on it now, and its good. I would not use rtv by itself again.

I have not used a gasket in 18+ years, thus far... unless a client insisted on using one, albiet my efforts differently.

There is however, a big difference in using a good sealer, a better sealer and what is considered the best sealer. But the reality is, that it has to do with surface preparation and cleanliness, more than anything else.

1. Use of an 80 grit, 2.5" disk on a 90* die grinder (air tool)
2. Use of non a chlorinated brake cleaner
3. Use of a quality sealer

And of course, letting the sealer 'skin' before you add lube.
