Default What cameras you guys using? Need some advice.

I'm in the market for a new camera. Not something terribly expensive or high-end. Just looking for something that is sufficient enough to take some bad *** shots. What shutter speed range am I looking into when I want to take those types of shots that look like this...

Don't know who's TA that is but sorry for jacking your pics!

So yeah, what features am I looking for in a camera that can give results like the above?

1st pic is probably photoshopped. Don't take my word for it though. If it its indeed a rolling shot, you want a shutter speed around 1/50 to 1/100.

2nd pic is taking with a rig.. you pretty much fabricate some kinda extension on which you attach the camera.. then again slow shutter

3rd pic is photoshopped, any camera will do.

What's your budget?

I'm looking for something under $500 that will let me take some really nice shutter shots. I want to take some pics of my car on the road.

Any recommended camera models?

for 500$ or less, you can buy a good point/shoot camera. I would recommend a rebel xt or xti, but that's 700$. World of difference though.

I shoot with a canon 1dmkII. Retails about $5300. Photography is a hobby of mine. Almost as costly as modding a car.

kaos, you can also compare cameras side-by-side on this site. Very useful!

I us a Canon Digital Rebel XT. I love the SLR, and I would never go back to point and shoot. I would spend the extra 2-300 bucks to go SLR...or I suppose you could get a used camera...

Just my 0.02

I'm getting my wife a Rebel XTi. She's more of a photographer than me. She can use my Z28 as her model... and maybe herself also.:woot:

There are some DSLRs in your budget range - Nikon D40, D50, and possibly the D40X (a 10.2 Mp camera coming out soon). I use a D70s, and it is also a very good option.

As far as point and shoots, I just got a Canon SD800IS from a contest I won, and it's a pretty good value @ ~$400 (it's a compact point and shoot - meaning it will fit nicely into your pocket, but it doesn't give you as many manual options as some of the more traditional point and shoots, and certainly not as much as an SLR, but it takes great pictures and has some nice features).

I knew as soon as I looked at it that that's what you did.

Good advice on here, other than the comments about PS. All of those shots were probably "cleaned up" or detailed with PS, but 98% of it was probably done with the camera or however you want to say it. I have a Nikon D70 with Sigma lens. If I had it to do over again, i would have went with a Nikor lens. But yeah, the Canon Digital Rebel would be a great choice. I don't know which one. I'd save some money for a flash!

Check out Royalcamera.com for the very best prices. I've had great luck with them.

Third one looks like HDR, but if its not, then well I'm surprised!

Here are some of my pictures with my Rebel XTi. Definatly worth EVERY penny. I did purchase a few lenses, but you will need a few to keep up with different photoshoots.

I just checked the EXIF on the 3rd pic, and I retract my comment on the PS.
kaos, make sure you get a camera that will allow you to shoot in manual mode. That way you can increase the shutter speed and aperture time.
