Pushrod Length..... Advice Needed!

Pushrod Length..... Advice Needed! So I used a pushrod length checker and a caliper to measure what length pushrods I need. I am on stock rocker arms and lifters. Pushrods are currently 7.400". With the Length checker, I came up w/ 7.380" (0 Lash/0 Lifter preload/TDC). I didn't have the rocker arms torqued to 22 ft.-lbs, just snugged on the springs......Now, correct me if I am wrong, but w/ a 7.400" pushrod, wouldn't that only give me about .020" of lifter preload where as stock needs to be around .060" at the least?? I could be looking far too into this, but any advice is much appreciated.

Extend the checker to meet and sit in rocker cups but the checker should still rotate lightly.
Then read that and add .080
That should be your new p-rod length.
Your cam has dual lobes, I would measure both intake and exhaust and base your needs on that.

If you are reading by making a measurement (caliper) then the length you are reading is Overall Length (OAL). Pushrods com in Gauge Length. The adjustable pushrod should have a set of lines on it that you count each time they pass each other which is 0.050". The Comp adjustable pushrod comes in 6.800" initial length, so for example if you put it in and had 10.5 turns you would add that to get the correct gauge length to get your zero lash pushrod length.
6.800 + 10.5 X 0.050 = 7.325" Gauge Length
A more crude approach is to take your measured OAL and subtract approximately 0.017" but I would double check this with the above method.

Ok, I knew those lines had to have some standard increment to them, but I couldn't seem to find anything to tell me what exactly the increment was......Would it be best for me to run two seperate pushrod lengths? Oh, and do you have any tips on trying to spin that length checker while it is in the pushrod hole? I was having a hell of a time getting the bottom part to stay stationary while I rotated the upper portion......
