Default Anybody keep there car in a storage unit?

My car is not my daily driver, it is in the driveway, covered by a good cover. But I want a garage. I hate taking the cover off and wiping the car down everytime I use it. I found a good place nearby that rents storage units that will fit the car.

Do any of you use these units? How much do you pay? Do you like it? Thanks!

I don't know if this would influence your decision or not, but we usually do one or two burglaries a month at a couple of the storage places in town. There have been a couple instances when they got into the units and trashed stuff or ripped stuff off.

By the same token, the same thing could happen in your own garage... and it is more secure than just being parked in your driveway.

Check out the place before you do it. Fenced in property and security cameras are a plus... but still not 100%

Mine goes into the storage unit during the off season. I haven't had a problem but I go during off hours when no one is around except the person attending the gate to open my unit to get the car. Fenced with barbed wire, Gated, Armed Security Guard, and Cameras about 70 bucks a month.

I used to pay $150 a month for a measley 10 by 20 unit here in NJ, but after the 6 months I did it they were going to raise rates to $175 so I said enough of that. $150 was plenty, but I didn't have a garage then and my car had just been painted, so I figured just for the winter. Now I have my own garage and love it! Just wish it was a bit bigger...

The place I'm looking at is fenced, gated, and has cameras....

But they want $175 a month....I'm thinking maybe just for the winters?

Any more opinions?

$150-200/spot is about right for a decent spot on Long Island...

I'm paying $275 for a 2-car (private)...

I pay 70 a month right down the street no guard fenced and if you do not have the code to your door, and you open it, an alarm goes off, police come in five to 7 minutes

If the storage unit catches on fire or something happens to your car while it there does your insurance still cover everything?

Thats why you keep comp on your insurance. Mine with comp only comes out to about 10 bucks a month. When I pull the car out I'll need to call the insurance company and get collision on it.
