Default m6 to a4 need help

does anyone know if the pnp switch is not used will it make the converter lock and stay locked. yesterday i finished the swap added fluid, noticed it didnt go into third so i went back home added a bit more fluid. then it shifted nice and firm from 1-2 nice but was still not shifting right then it shifted and everthing worked good untill i got to the next light it stalled. turned it back on put it in drive stalled again. what could be wrong, too little fluid or too much? do i really need the pnp switch for it to work properly?
