Removing the tranny from an LT1 t56 car
Im going to be pulling my tranny on the 25th and hope to get it done inside of two hours, I know it may be wishful thinking but I want to get it out and take it to the tranny shop that night. I will be using a lift, and will have 4-5 people helping me. Should I remove the tranny from the bell housing, or the bell housing from the engine? I've never removed a tranny from a car before, well a manual that is. What all do I have to do, I know the cross member, torque arm, the few sensors, drain fluid before hand, all the bolts that hold it to the bell housing, probably remove the starter too right? What about clutch parts? I have no clue how any of that stuff is attached/works, as Im still relatively new to working on cars...
Thanks in advance.
Thanks in advance.

i agree, pull it off of the bellhousing, make sure you give the clutch fork a tug to disingage it, with 4 or 5 people its going to go pretty quick, you dont have to remove the starter either. oh and you have to pull the shifter off too, good luck

So
Take shifter off
Hoist car
Remove crossmember, support tranny with jack
Remove Torque Arm
Remove Drive Shaft
Remove bell housing bolts
Remove all electrical connections ( Reverse Lockout, VSS, Reverse Light Switch, what else? )
tug on clutch fork
Remove Tranny
Missing anything?

does the lift you are using lift from the wheels or the chassis, i ask because the torque arm bolts are a pain in the but to get out while the suspention is loaded, if you lift it from the chassis it wont be an issue.

thats about it, i dropped mine today using a lift, took maybe 2 hours tops. i also took the tranny off the bellhousing, then took the bellhousing off...becaue im putting a new clutch in, if you do take off the bellhousing you will need to remove the starter and inspection cover, but thats only if you remove the bellhousing.
