Default ls1 supra

LS1 MKIII supra. This seems like a cool swap. I'm considering selling my third gen firebird and picking up a MKIII supra and dropping in an LSX iron block with aluminum heads. Thoughts? Feelings?

It's not a bad idea. But the 1J can handle just as much as an LS1. I've heard a couple of people going this route though. They said they found a LS1 for cheaper than a 1J or a 2J. If there is nothing wrong with the motor I would say X2 for big single. If it's a turbo motor. If not, then forget everything I just said and hell yes to LSX!!

Hey check out Supraforums.com to get more info about fabbing the engine bay, routing to rear end, drivetrain, etc.

The 1J may be able to push out the same peak HP as the LSx but the powerband would be completely different. Also turboing the LSx would net you far more than the 1J.....Even if they found a turbo they still would have to swap it over to the 1J from the 7m, like you said, and because of that they may as well just go with what they really want to do.

I agree that the supra forums aren't the best place to go with this type of question. If they are anything like the Z forums, they get a LITTLE defensive about swapping a domestic engine into the car.

Of course if they just wanted a V8 I say go for the 1uz.....its a tough little engine and when you put some forced induction on it, it will lay down some serious HP...not so much NA....not to mention the 1UZ is dirt *** cheap.

The one I'm looking at is an NA 5 speed. It's body is perfect, but the engine seized. The owner's asking for 1000 bucks, but I bet I could talk her down to 800 since she's my neighbor. 2jz I think is way way over rated and it's heavy and doesn't rev that well (peters out at 6800). Plus, an LSX swap would be different and cool. I don't really care what "pureists" have to say because it's my car, not theirs

Actually, you said a LSX block, and if that's the case... do it, f*** the purists.
With the LSX capable of what... 2500hp (albeit advertised) a 2JZ can't hold a candle to it.

I was just envisioning this the other day... a Mk4 supra... LSX block, and a biiiigggasss blower tower through the hood. Hahaha

Why iron?

Boosted aluminum LSx blocks have put over 1000 to the wheels. Unless you are planning well over 1000 hp, I wouldn't want heavy iron in their unless I had to.

Then it would make more sense to drop the big DOHC design made of iron for a lighter aluminum LSx.

Do what you want. I had a MKIII and that engine is good for about 500 before I think it'd be worth swapping a different engine in and going for power other than the "wow" factor.
