The cover on the side is an accumulator, they probably used a B&M **** kit, yes **** kit. It says to leave the spring out but when you do that it doesn't push the cover on enough to seal it. I'd put the spring back in with a new o-ring and run it like that or put a 1 1/8" x 5/16" pin in the hole under the plug near the accumulator to block fluid flow to it.
You need no special tool to remove the cover, tap it in and insert a long 1/8" allen wrench or pin, awl, etc into the small hole in the case on the other side of the retaining ring, this will push the ring out enough to grab it with needle nose pliers.

But chances are real good it's really leaking from the detent cable or dipstick.

Thats just the accumulator. If the o-ring isn't installed just right, it will leak every time.

Cooler line, make sure you don't have the thin walled trans fittings, they crack easy.
Could very well be a cooler line leaking.
