Default LS6 or LS2 head ID.

I hope this isn't a topic covered countless times but I haven't been able to find the answer yet.
Iam to understand the LS6 and the LS2 both used the 243 heads how can I tell the difference?
I would think the LS6 head would be the more desirable one due to the lighter sodium filled exhaust valves. Correct?
Thanks for any help on this, Carl.

I have an '07 Corvette with an LS2. Head casting number is 799. Not sure what that means, but it's down on power at the dyno.

Both the LS6 and LS2 heads are 243 castings. The only difference is the valves they are equipped with and the valve springs. LS2 heads come with regular valves while the LS6 heads come with LS6 springs and the lighter valves like you mentioned. If you buy just the 243 heads (either LS6 or LS2), then buy a set of the lighter valves, and some good valve springs, you've got "an LS6 head".

I bought a new set of 243's assembled, now I want to know if they are LS2's or LS6's. They have yellow springs if that helps. Thanks for the replies! Carl.

Yellow spring means LS6 springs, sounds like you have LS6 243 heads.

My LS6 (02 ZO6) came with pink paint on the springs.

Thanks everyone for Your replies. I feel I might just have LS6 heads!? If I were to pull a valve out is there a weight for the LS 6 valve so I can be certain? Thanks again for all the input! Carl.

LS2 valves have whitish and red dots on their bases.

Once the paint burns off, I guess you could result to a crude way to tell if it's an LS6 head- measure the valve mass.
