Default Air temp sensor before Mass air flow sensor

As some of you may know, I have a 98 ls1 in a 1987 Trans Am. My CAI system is a little different than most. My question is, can I put the Air Temp Sensor BEFORE the Mass Air Flow Sensor? I have only seen pics of the ATS AFTER the MAFS.

Does it matter where the Air Temp Sensor is located as long as it is getting reading?

I remember reading in a few threads about putting the IAT sensor after.. some have put it in the intake's EGR port location.

The IAT on LS1's are before the MAF.

I thought the IAT plugged into the air lid on a ls1 car, after the MAF?

I meant the IAT is after the MAF, plugged into the lid.

Well yeah, but that's an impossibility. It goes lid (IAT is in the side of the lid), then MAF, then the bellows, then the TB. Hope that clears it up for you.

I know that. I just wanna know if the car will run fine if the IAT is placed BEHIND the MAF. So that would place the IAT between the MAF and the throttle body. See what I am sayin now?

as long as it's in the air stream you're good.

I think as long as the temperature is constant before and after the maf it won't matter where you locate it.

I doubt if you would get any false readings even right in front of the throttle body.

Putting it in the EGR port sounds kinda risky though since there is definitely a difference in temperature there. Might advance your timing and fuel a little too much.

I don't even have mine in the airflow anymore...it just sits alone by itself in a little box up by my driver's side headlight. I'm running a custom setup though, and a custom tune, so don't go by that...point is, you can really put it anywhere.

Well no there would not be any problems from un plugging it, the computer would go off of other sensors and not be able to trim the fuel correctly for the air temps.

The 2 main concerns with the IAT are that it is in direct Air Flow and that id doesn't get Heat soaked..
