Crankshaft bolt - halfway out and stuck
Ok so I did a cam install last week and all went well apart from not having a new crankshaft bolt so i decided to reuse till I get another one soon.
I heated up the stock pulley with a blowtorch and it went on pretty far before putting in the crankshaft bolt and tightning it up.
My oil seal was screwed tho so tonight I remove everything and go to remove the crankshaft bolt but it came out part of the way and started getting stiffer and now its pretty hard to make it move, whats going on?
Should I just keep trying to undo it?
It went on with no problems from what I remember.
Thanks!

it might be just that one part of the thread, if you keep backing it out slowly it might just jump that thread, but keep your fingers crossed that it doesnt break...... if it does break hopefully it wont break flush with the crank snout, and you can grab onto whats left of the bolt and try to get it out

It would be a good idea to chase the threads before you reinstall a new bolt.
The way that bolt looks, it appears the dampaner was not on far engough. With only the 1st few treads grabbing, which caused your problem.

Put the pulley in the oven for a while next time, and use a longer bolt.

Well time to say it again.....NEVER pull the pulley on with a bolt. Get threaded rod, nuts and washers. Doing it any other way is just asking for trouble.
Now lots of guys will say I've done it many times with no trouble, but lots have been on here with trouble and no one has ever come on here saying I used a threaded rod and washers and screwed up my crankshaft!
That said, chase the threads several times with clean light oil, get a new bolt and keep your fingers crossed.

Yeah im going to heat the pully up really good this time, find some threaded rod and nuts to get it in place then replace the bolt.
I used a pen magnet last night to clear out the little filings and remains of the bolt that was still in the thread. Could see that a small part of the thread in the crank looked messed up so shall see about redoing the first part of the thread too.
Guess sometimes you think "if im careful enough it might not happen to me" well ***** to that!
I usually order multiples of replaceable bits just incase as its harder to get them over here.
Off to hunt for some new bolts!
Thanks to you all, tis great having that little bit of support!
