i hear about all the TM bullcrap problems that people are having with the new z06 is it the same with the 01 and 02's
also any reason i should steer away from the 01 z06 being the first year available and go with the 02?

as far as i know probs with 02-04 are minimal... but yes, as a rule avoid 01's. some have been fine though.

All of the torque management problems can be solved by a tune.

The only othe thing I can think of is that 01's were rated at 385hp and 02's on are 405hp.

Many 01's out there with no problems. Just research your candidates. Regarding the 01's, nothing a cam and exhaust change wouldn't solve to surpass the 02+

'01 is a great vette. i got an 02 because the cam has more lift (.250 more) and the cats are bigger.

the oil usage thing was in less than 20 percent of the 'o1's so it is unlikely you get one. most were fixed too, plus it doesn't hurt performance any. just have to add a quart now and then. unless if you don't get close to redline a lot..then they don't burn anymore than any other z06

i drove a '01 Z06 with expensive custom exhaust and intake and performance tune and it was fricken fast! tad more than my stock 02 z06 :)

miles were 50k+ otherwise i would have bought it. try to get one from the original owner, makes huge difference

G/L :)

I drove an '02 Zo6 (48k miles) on Friday, and an '01 Zo6 (73k miles) on Saturday.

Although both were bone stock.. in my opinion the '01 felt a tad faster. :drive:

sorry im a noob :( ... but how is torque management addressed in a z06?

is there actually a value you change in the computer?

im tryin to learn about tuning and get the computer and wide band and do mine...eventually

As I said in an earlier post, the algorithm is in the PCM, but a car with a manual tranny CANNOT invoke it.

From the Service Manual ..... page 6-1034 (PCM Description)

subsection: Torque Management

"The PCM monitors the torque converter status, the transmission gear ratio, and the extended brake switch input in order to determine if torque reduction is required."

Hmmmm ... let's see ... on a car with a manual tranny there is NO torque converter, and the PCM has NO idea what gear is selected in the gearbox. Kinda hard to do torque management when you're missing two critical inputs to the algorithm.

QUOTE:
Further on the manual lists examples of times where TM would be experienced ... here are two that clearly indicate it applies to automatics ...

* During transmission upshifts and downshifts

* When the driver is performing harsh or abusive manuevers, such as shifting into gear at high throttle angles or shifting the transmission from Reverse to Drive to create a rocking motion

None of the examples are for a manual gearbox since, taking the above, the PCM has no idea when you're up or down shifting, and I have yet to find a DRIVE position on my shift knob ....
