if u bought the manual boost switch u have to go to the wastegate and change it... if u didnt get any of that i think u just need to change to a different waste gate spring.

I want to run between 5 and 10 psi on mine. I am getting a electronic boost controller, and I have the stock spring in the waste gate. Do I have to change the spring ? sts wants $50 for just the spring. thanks

assuming it came with the sts kit its a tial 38mm

If you have the 38mm tial wastegate the spring from STS should be a 5-6 lb. spring. If you get a dual stage boost controller you can set it up to have a low boost setting and a hi boost setting. I myself run @ 5 psi. on low and 8psi. on hi. Once the boost controller is installed and set up correctly you don't have to change the spring because the boost controller changes/manipulates vacuum and holds the valve closed untill the pre-determined psi setting is reached then it opens.

I'm sure it would work with some time and wiring. I'm not too familiar with Greddy/digital style boost controllers to give a 100% asnwer but I'm pretty sure it would.

I have the STS dual stage controller and it's a simple led switch mounted where ever you choose and the vacc. switch and boost adjuster in the trunk or where ever you decide but it's more efficient to keep the vacc. hoses short as possible and that whole set up only cost $165.

I just keep track of the boost level on my boost gauge(pillar mounted) instead of taking my eyes away from the road and looking down at the controller set up. But it is ultimately your choice.

just use a spring my friends, having a boost controller will only get you a blown motor later on down the road. we all know how easy it would be to "turn" the **** and gain 80rwhp..... get a $35 spring and call it quits. just my opinion

As stated above the flip of a switch can get you into trouble if your not carefull and show some restraint/caution.

If you do decide to go with a boost controller use it wisely/cautiously because we hate to see guys put all their time and money into a project and the following weekend have a pile of scrap metal!

Opinions will vary. The one shown in this thread is more expensive because it combines 2 functions into 1. The first function is to switch between the two settings. There are a number of boost controllers which do this. I use the STS, which is quasi-electronic. The second function is to show the boost level. Personally, I separate them, and have a controller and a gauge that matches my other gauges. But it is certainly nice to be able to run at the lower boost level most of the time and only use the higher boost when I want (or need) it. I run at 5 & 8 also. IMHO, this saves my engine unneeded wear and tear.
