Default NHRA Trans Am?

My friends mom just bought an NHRA Trans Am. First of all what does that package include(I know what it stands for. And they also want to know how to tell if its an authentic NHRA and not just a badge thrown on there. Thanks!

It's a WS6 with a wheel and strip package, simuliar to the collectors eddition, There is a section in here for WS6'S SS and FIREHAWKS, they could fill you in a little better,

hmmm, well its really no where similar to a Collector Edition.

The NHRA package could only be had on Base Formula's and Base Trans Am's.
It was mostly a badge package with a few performance upgrades like Power steering cooler and performance gearing with chrome wheels. The badges included two oval-shaped fender badges, racing flag badges for the sail panel and a set of badges to cover the stock lettering on the center filler tail piece.

The NHRA Special Edition was a commemorative edition offered from 2000 to 2002. It was created to help celebrate Pontiac’s major sponsorship of the National Hot Road Association (NHRA) which celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2001.

The NHRA Edition package cost around 1k, it added a 3.23 A4 or a 3.42 Hurst M6 rear end, power steering cooler, P245/50ZR16 tires, badges and a keychain produced by Morgan Design Group. The only colors that were available with the 1SH option code were red, white, pewter, and black.

So look for the 1SH option code on the driver door sticker. Although, some dealers were known to just sell the badges and put them on any Firebird.

2000-2002 Formula/Trans Am NHRA Editions

NHRA Special Edition Formula and Trans Am (2000-2002) was a commemorative edition to celebrate the NHRA's 50 year anniversary (in 2001), and Pontiac being a major sponsor of the NHRA for many years. In 2000 there was a total of 215 NHRA Firebirds produced, of which 97 were Formulas. In 2001 there were only 145 produced and in 2002 there were 535 produced. The total number produced is 895. The rarest are a few Trans Am Convertible NHRA SE models with approximately 15 of them. Basically the NHRA SE comes with PS cooler (which all '02 Trans Ams have now)and GSC's on 16". The autos came with 3.23's and 6 speeds came with the default 3.42. Nothing really that special except for the cool badges. You could only get NHRAs in white, black, pewter, or red. Also, when you ordered a Formula / Trans Am, you had a choice between the WS6 or NHRA package. It was either or, and they could not be combined. Pontiac has been the Official Car of the NHRA since Oldsmobile's departure as Official Car at the end of the 1995 Season. The NHRA option added $1,070 - $1,095 to the sticker price and included (but not limited to) the following: Hurst manual 6-speed (3.42 ratio) or automatic transmission (3.23 ratio), power-steering cooling, P245/50ZR16 performance tires, and NHRA-specific badges & keychain. The appeal of the 1SH option package (NHRA Special Edition) is parallel to the appeal of any "anniversary edition" car or "special pace car edition." It is a special designation to commemorate the NHRA drag racing series. The NHRA badges were made by Morgan Design Group.

According to Pontiac Historical services only 207 NHRA Firebirds were
built in 2000. Of that number only 110 were Trans Ams. The remaining
97 were Formulas.

NHRA Edition Breakdown Totals from 2000-2002:
In 2000 there was a total of 215 NHRA Firebirds produced.
In 2001 there were only 143 produced.
In 2002 there were 534 produced.

2002 NHRA Production Breakdown

Formula M6 62
Formula A4 85
Trans Am Coupe M6 136
Trans Am Coupe A4 189
Trans Am Convertible M6 16
Trans Am Convertible A4 46
TOTAL (2002) 534

I have one but I !Badged and !molded it, so nobody will ever know. Since the package was nothing speacial, I figured I would get more props on the clean look than I would with all that extra badging.

Sorry for the hijack....but trans-am nut, do you have any build numbers breakdown on the 75th Anniversary edition?

BTW, yes its real. Its the 75th Anniversary of Pontiac, not the Firebird. The package was available on other Pontiacs as well in 2001.
