Default Cam. question 224/581

My question is this, I just got a cam(224/224..581/581),Slp headers and dyno tuning done to my 99 camaro ss. Is also has all the other little bolt ons borla exhaust, 160* thermo, intake lid and maf.. I only dynoed 360rwhp and 365rwtq. How much more power could i make with a pulley set and an ls6 intake?? What are the best heads for this set up. Ls1 or ls6 and were to buy them?? Thanks.

ok <img border="0" title="" alt="[Frown]" src="gr_sad.gif" /> but what about heads and some pulleys. I keep hearing about 430+ head and cam cars. What does it take???

I have the same cam with Stage 2 LS1 ARE heads. The car dynoed 402RWHP. The intake valve is a little large for my next setup and I'm running 1-7/8 headers. In the interest of comparison I'm sure that the torque and hp would go up a little if I had a smaller intake valve and header diameter. Definitely no need to claim that as a huge gain though. I also have the stock pullies. I'll be changing that this spring.

I've got the C2 Hammer cam (224/224,.581/.581,112lsa), Stage 1 heads with stock valves, and LS6 intake.

See this link for the dyno results.

I think with the LS6 intake and a pulley, you should see at least a 20rwhp gain, torque probably about 10 rwtq.

I bought my heads 3 years ago at MTI, I think I got my money's worth out of them. <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_cheers.gif" />

If you get Stage 2 or 3 LS1 heads, you can get to 420+ rwhp, no problem. Stage 1 LS6 heads will get you about the same, Stage 2 LS6 heads should be worth 10-15 rwhp more. ARE, MTI, GTP, etc. all make these heads, and the prices are listed on their websites.

Good luck as you climb the hp ladder!! <img border="0" alt="[driving]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_driving3.gif" />

thanks alot the ls6 intake will go on soon with the pulleys.I'm trying to make as much power w/stock heads first then later move on to ported ls6 or ls1 heads $$$$$$. I hope to make 380+rwhp with this small addition(ls6 intake & pulleys). Any other sugestions how to make more power, N/A.

I always gain about 10rwhp/10rwtq on the dyno when I open up my cutout. It's very loud however, you would not want to run on the street with an open cutout unless you want the cops to follow you around.

An alternative to a cutout is to cut the Intermediate pipe before it goes over the axle and have a Borla Sportsman Race Muffler with a turndown welded on. This will give you about the same gain as a cutout, just not as loud. It will still be louder than what you've got now. Cost will be about $250 installed.

You could also do a bullet muffler, installed costs about $100, but this is as loud as a cutout only.

The other mod I did'nt see for you was a ported throttle body, it's worth about 5rwhp/5rwtq, costs anywhere from $100-$200 depending on who does it. Bauer and Shaner are the most popular TB guys.

There is not much left after that, are you running CATS? If so, an off-road Y-pipe will net you another 5-10 rwhp/some torque.

Thanks for the reply. I actualy have a borla exhaust with a q-tec on the adjustable side. With the fick of a switch I can run closed(through muffler) or wide open(no cats straight headers very loud!!). It was dynoed wide open. I wll look in to that TB. Thanks
