Magic Stick 4 Cam - could use some advice
Hi. I have a stock A4 98 LS1 TA aside from exhaust. I was thinking about going with the magic stick 4 cam. I wanted to stick with the 111lsa for the aggressive idle. I was wondering what springs and retainers you would suggest? Also would I have to get shorter pushrods? And would you also suggest a ls2 timing chain or ported oil pump?
Or could I just get by the the MGS4 cam, springs, retainers, and a tune?
This is a weekend car, maybe seeing the track once a month.

Get the Ms4 cam package from Texas Speed with the PRC spring kit, and you'll be good to go. The only upgrade suggestion I would make is the throttle body, and intake if you have the money.

i am a noob also interested in this cam and i have a couple questions also
do you have to flycut the pistons w/ stock sized valves?
do you have to flycut the pistons w/ larger valves?
how often would i have to change prc .660 springs daily driving the car with that high of lift?
sorry if these are questions someone has already asked but i really dont feel like searching through pages to find an answer. thanks for any input

You dont have to fly cut if you run the 111 LSA (thats what I'm running and it works just fine). I've been told by a few people that the PRCs have been known to go 30k miles or more. You just have to be more careful to be easy on them until they're up to operating temperatures. Just buy the package from TSP, it's cheap and everything is there and did I mention titanium retainers !!

I am thinking about ordering the head and cam package with ms4 and stage 1.0 ls6's. Is it ok to mill the heads a little to increase compression as long as you flycut? I want to mill them about .020 or so, but don't know how the ms4 will run with a higher comp ratio.

Any cam will run better down low with higher compression.

I agree with what everyone has said so far. And yes i would replace the timing chain, and go with a ported oil pump as well.

Thanks for all the input guys. I'm going to go with MGS4 cam package from texas speed as well as the F.A.S.T intake and 90mm throttle body.
What should I do about these 98 heads? What would be the best heads to match the magic stick 4 cam?

In all honesty the 98 heads do work just fine (they ran 10.51 on stock 98 heads last year with this cam). However, since you went with a fast setup, you would be foolish not to go with a set of heads. I would talk to the boys at TSP, they won't steer you wrong. Generally heads are best matched with the cam specs and I believe they have a set that works well... Definately do a double roller timing chain though(I did after figuring I wouldnt need it). The stock chain is so chinsy.

stage 1 keep you cheap.
stage 2 will require flycutting, plus more $ initial for the heads.
Depending on how true that statement is will dictate the funds you want to shell out. If it is a 90/10 track/street ratio, go for more power. Either way try a search on the ms4 for sound clips, your gonna like it no matter what you throw at it for heads.
Def. give tsp a call.
also look into fuel system upgrades.
