Default What happens if a Yank blows up?

I am buying one used from a guy PE4000Y (4 yrs old or so?) and want to know what is going to happen if it breaks - will it bust my built tranny up? motor? Anything else than the converter?

If anything breaks off and gets in the fluid, it'll move through the tranny.
it's not uncommon for a failed converter to take a trans with it.

You could probably have it refreshed pretty cheap for peice of mind.
I would hope that the converter is in decent shape after 4 years.
Did he tell you why he's selling it?

I would not buy one used. I would just get a new one for the piece of mind.

Exactly... even if you got it for less than half of the original price, its just not worth it.
You don't know how its been treated in the past, and with 4 years of use, its a risky buy.
If it was an exhaust, intake or something along those lines why not, but something that attached to your transmission and could cause serious problems is not something to roll the dice on.

I am a strong advocate of NOT buying parts like a converter used... too many unknown variables there... Just buy a new one and be done with it IMO...

I bought and installed a used Yank with no problems....but it's a gamble. I was lucky and it worked flawlessly. I replaced to go bigger and my buddy had it refreshed and uses it in his car now. Yank has a good deal on cut/cleans. PM them and they'll fix you up.

I am the guy selling the converter to him, I never had one single problem out of the converter. The reason i took it out, was because i was going to a more race oriented set up, TH350 and a 4400 converter. The converter and tranny were fine when i took them out. I am using the tranny in a street truck project, but the 4000 was bit too much for what i am wanting to do with it, so we got a PY3400E, I will tell you this much, if something is wrong, or were to go wrong with the converter, i would work with him on it, but like i said, it was perfectly fine when it was taken out. I just hope the 4l60E will hold up to the 408 and the 200 shot like you are talking about. I answered all questions he had, and asked if he still wanted to go through with it. I am not out to take advantage of anyone. I know he is skeptical, as i would be, but all i can do is be as honest about everything as possible. i sent you a pm with the tracking number and estimated date of delivery.
Thanks again David

It depends on what the sale price is..If you buy it & have it checked & refreshed by Yank and it's cheaper then new, go for it

I'm pretty sure they told me $250 for a re-stall. Chances are it will need to have some of the wear parts replaced so it may be more.

Just send it to Yank for a cut and clean. It will be good as new then.
