Default help ..Another Question. Middle of cam install

well got the motor apart almost completly down ,intake, heads etc well i was goin to pull the oil pump to acces the timing chain to put a new on in .but do i have to drop the damn oil pan also .is their another way to do it .the motor is in the car and i really didnt want to have to drop the pan

You have to drop the oil pan just an inch or 2 but it does not have to come all the way out. Pretty much unbolt it and let it sit on the K member.

drop the pan ... i was in same shoes as you and i didn't want to ... but just drop it inch or two and it will make that pickup tube bolt alot easier to get on/off

A gear wrench is your best friend when it comes to unbolting the oil pan.

yes gear wrench is almost required for a couple bolts on oil pan and the pickup tube bolt

A 10mm gear wrench is a standard pre-requisite for working on any LS1 based car.

thats all there is to it...and as the others said 10mm ratcheting wrench makes **** alot easier for the bolts above the k member
