Why are headers bad with STS?
I am consindering purchasing the STS kit in the future. In all the threads that I read, people are saying to get rid of headers and put the stock manifolds back on. Even though there is a turbo, wouldnt headers still help with with lower end power? If heat loss is the problem why dont people just wrap it?

I have talked to Billy from Texas Rear Turbo's and he told me just wrap the exhaust and there shouldnt be an issue. You can retain your headers and have the STS kit....
This is what Billy told me:
This is also what he sent me in treturn to asking about there Cam and turbo kit:
I hope this helps ya out some. Coated headers are bette rthan non coated, they hold the heat and push it away from the engine bay. So I would think wrap them from the collector on back and you should be just fine. That is what I am planning on doing.....
This is what Billy told me:
The kit will work fine with headers. Are yours coated. If not, it hurts spool a little because of the heat it looses.
'99 Z-28, 6 speed, stock heads, LT headers uncoated, STS with t-67, our fmic, our cam with Patriot springs, and our tune. We also wrapped his exhaust and made a couple of changes to the charge pipe. Before the cam, he put down 476 at 7.5psi. After our cam, he put down 503rwhp at 6psi. The way I look at it, I would rather run lower boost and be easier on the motor.

With my long tubes it caused the turbo to not spool until about 4000-4500 because of the lose of exhaust velocity as stated above. I put a set of of ported/jet hot coated 02 manifolds on & it spooled at 2500-3000. I actually felt that the car pulled a little harder w/ the manifolds. I wish I would have dyno'd it w/ longtubes and then w/ manifolds, but oh well.

Also if you go with longtubes remember to NOT wrap them if they are ceramic coated because the wrap will dry rott if you do... I guess what everyone is trying to say is "DON'T GO TO HEADERS JUST YET".... Seriously see what those manifolds will do first and then go the headers route... If you want you may be able to port match them but I would honestly stick with stock manifolds and put the money in the tune or other detrimental areas....

Waaay too many people are getting consistent results with stock manifolds to even consider longtubes. Port the stock manifolds, and then wrap the exhaust all the way back to the turbo. You can also consider that HVAC wrap stuff under the header wrap. and your done.
