Default Can i lock my yank in 3rd at the track?

I ran the car at the track today with the new set up. (cam in sig instead of tr224 and 370 gears instead of 411) I was having traction issues due to some minor rain early on in the day. But my problem is im still only trapping at 115 every time. 11.9 @115 every time just like last year. This is on motor no spray. I know i could have ran a better time but why isnt my mph higher? Would locking the converter at about 6k in 3rd help my mph and result in a better time also? Also what do you guys think of using a yank ss4000 in my car with all other mods in sig.

if it helps any, locking my Vig up on the big end picked me up almost 2mph (less than .15 et gain) I use a multiDisc 3 plate 9.5", not sure if Yanks are designed to lockup at WOT though? Something I'm sure you would have been told when you ordered it, call Yank.

SS4000 is fine with those mods. I'd lock it up on one run and see if you gain a lot. If you gain 2 or more mph, I'd call Yank and discuss it.

How bad was your 60'? 11.9 with your mods is unimpressive unless you have some nasty DA. How was the DA on your last year's runs?

11.9 is horrible i know. I was only pulling 1.7 60s. Last year i could do 1.5s on motor. Im not to worried after my run i literally had to turn my wipers on due to light rain. I know if i got it down to a 1.4-1.6 id could do 11.5-11.6. Im more worried about the 115 mph. Im going to have my tuner lock it up. Any advise on at what rpm.

You need to log a run and see how much converter slip there is to start evaluating where to lock it up. The hard thing is balancing slip versus HP gains. Your cam looks like it peaks pretty high in the rpm. Locking at 6000 could cause rpms to drop to 5600, which while above peak torque, could be a 900 rpm below peak HP.

I'm not sure there is a simple ideal spot. The best would be to go with someone who can try a couple different rpm points.

I spoke to yank today. They said they do not recomend locking any of their converters. They said eventually it will glaze the clutch. He said it could be done but not recomended and if i do it to test out locking it at alot of different rpms. Im just baffled with the low mph with my setup. It did 430 rwhp locked on a mustang dyno.

If it was raining that day...the humidity, and therefore the DA were probably very high.

High DA = Low MPH and High ET

What was your 1/8 mile an hour....?
I have seen leaner AFR's cause problems in the 1/4 mile mph and have a great 1/8 mile mph. If your gaining 23 1/2 to 24 1/2 mph from 1/8 to 1/4 (your combo) your AFR is probaby OK. Also shift points will make for some screwy mph's....

I know the afr was right at 12.5. I have an lc1 in the car. It was short shifting 1-2 at about 6100 due to lack of traction. 2-3 was right at about 6700. Ill just have to see what happens on a nicer day.
