It would help if you mentioned which state emissions you are trying to pass.

In Washington they will hook up to your computer and see if it throws any codes. If not then you pass. If you have no O2 sensors or have been having trouble with SES lights then you might want to take it to Ellis or TJ (depending on a north or south location where you live) to have them do a "No Report" on the computer.

Don't know how Oregon, Idaho, or Montana do it.

He's referring to WA state.

Brian:

Your car sounds about like mine and I passed without a problem. They didn't look at anything. You need to make sure your tune is good enough--as the previous poster mentioned.

I have headers, ORY and a catback. All they did was plug into my OBDII port and scan for errors. I had turned them all to "no reporting" before hand and I passed with flying colors.

Nope. HPTuners is bitchin! Though I've only just scratched the surface of messing with it. That'll change after the cam and nitrous install in the next few months.

If its OBDII (96+) then no sniffer in WA. They usually just check your gas cap for good seal and plug into the ALDL port to run the test. If you have Autotap software (not sure what others also do this, but I imagine there are several) you can run the emissions test for yourself and confirm pass or fail.
