Default What gears do I have?

I just bought our first F-body for my wife, a 2000 SS M6 Vert, and need to know how I can find out what gears it came with.

On the highway at 70 MPH it sits at 1500 RPM in 6th, the dealer said it had 2.73's? Did they come with 2.73's?

I'm a newbie to the F-bodies, but not to tire burners.....my car that sits next to this is a 10th anniversary 03' Cobra. At 70 in 6th its at about 2100 RPM w/3.55's

Any help would be appreciated

A4s came with 2.73s (or 3.23s if shifter has 1st gear available). The M6 came with 3.42. Get another dealer, they should know this blindfolded.

it was a Lexus dealer, it was used with 19,200 miles on it.

So if 6th is sittin at 1500 on the tach @ 70, then what are the tranny ratios?

Look at the door jamb for the RPO codes. GU2 = 2.73, GU5 = 3.23 and GU6 = 3.42. If it's a manual it's got 3.42.

+1 3.42's from the factory, always be aware, that people do swap gears out. Then you can varify on a lift with a chalk mark.

This car came BONE stock, so i'm guessing that the gears are too. I checked the door tag and GU6 is there.

The 6th gear ratio must be a lot taller in the F-body t56 than the Cobra's to have a 5/600 RPM spread at highway cruising (same speed).

I've noticed a lot of guys say 4.10's for the M6, if any of you guys have that combo, whats your tach at doing 70?

The reason I ask is this car will see some daily driving, but more trips to the coast and am just curios as to rev's.

Go to www.f-body.org/gears/ and play with the calculator. Believe it also shows the trans ratios.

It does, thats what us m6 guys love so much about the 6sp. We can have 4.10s and do a lower rpm on the highway than your 3.55 stang was doing

Ericbigmac83,

With your 4.10's hows your first gear? Too short, or all right?
Also, @ 70 what RPM does your motor sit at?

If the freeway cruising speed isnt too bad I would like to go 4.10's.
