Half a quart overfill should not cause major problems, generally you don't want to overfill because of increased windage, foaming, etc. of the oil but good oil and only 1/2 quart should make it less of a concern here.

I've been running 6 quarts in my LS1 for over 5 years and 1/2 quart over in many cars over the last 25 years. No problems.

just wondering what benefit would 6qt or 1/2 qt more get you? I usually run at 1/2 mark on dip stick to prevent windage/foaming.

since most everyone's lsx engines causes oil to dissapear i wouldn't think there would be anything wrong with it being half a quart high, especially since soon as you start it up and take off and it starts sloshing and roping it is a quart or more lower.

I fill the filter and put 5.3 quarts in, never an issue. The only time to worry is iff you put 10-15 quarts in it, its happended at dealerships and it locks the motor. At worst a lil oil on the crank could take a few hp off of the table, 1/2 quart shouldn't do that.

Just run the longer filter. For K@N's, it's par # 2006. No reason to run high when you can run a bigger oil filter with no clearance issues.

I run 5.75 each oil change. I fill the filter up before install, which is usually .25 for the stock filter and I put 5.5 in the head.

me too, i've heard of some people using just 5 quarts with no problem, way back when, drag racers would actually run like 3 quarts so the oil wouldnt hit the crank tryin to get every horse they could out of the motor. the level of oil in the pan rises like a 1/4 inch with the extra half quart, maybe less.
