Would there be any noticeable difference in noise for the two, if they are same manufacturer and set up the same?
No, you won't hear a difference between the two. Bob

If I just wanted to have the rear rebuilt, this is the kit that would get me there right?

Are Motive gears good stock replacements?

If your going to have the rearend rebuilt you may want to go a little steeper depending on your setup. The only gears I know to have a common noise problem is the 4.10. My friend in his z28 used the motive gears and had no problems, and I am pritty sure they are stronger than the stockers.

Noticeably steeper gears wouldnt work for me really, cuz its a daily driver, no stip duty at all. And the rear is getting re-done because its whining right now and has 125k on it, I figure a general overhaul would be good for it.

my 4.10s didnt make noise until about 2000 miles after i had them. then they are whining in 5th-6th on the gas.
