Default Twin turbo question

An aquaitance from school offered to go with me to the track when I go in a month, he claimed that by then hell have his new turbo into his nissan 300zx twin turbo(one cracked) and that hell be running 20 psi of boost per turbo mounting up to 40 total psi of boost over all, now I know almost nothing about turbos ect because my cars Naturally aspirated, but wont this be almost impossible on a stock engine? especially on a car 10 years old? Wouldnt that destroy the engine or am I just retarded? Now this is what hes been telling everyone, for all I know he could be completely right or completely bullshitting, like I mentioned I know NOTHING of turbos or supercharges so forgive my ignorance, I just wanted to get some thoughts on it.

My first car was a 91 TT-Z, the stock turbo's are crap and can barely push 20psi together, now if he has some upgraded turbos like gt25's or gt28's then yeah he might be able to squeeze 40psi out of them but the motor won't take much beyond 700hp (assuming all supporting mods are done and it's properly tuned) without being built.

see im not sure if he has turbos that great, because from what I understand hes only replacing one of them, and the other ones stock, so doesnt he have to use the same or an equivalent turbo for the new one? and right now its supposedly at 350 whp which I actually doubt from seeing it perform, but hes saying itll be in the 400s with once the boost is changed

he's full of it.... dont worry, 400whp is really easy to get with the right bolton's, some good gas and well maintained car.

The boost pressure is a COMBINED amount, it dosnt matter if he has 1,2, or 10 turbos. The stock T22 turbos are maxed out by around 400WHP and 19psi. The stock engine is pretty strong can hold over 650WHP with just bigger turbos and injectors.

Yeah, but 40 psi? That's approaching, what, 800 rwhp on that car (3.0L)?

That's built motor (or really pushing the stock one), upgraded turbos, race gas, etc for sure...

^ Unless the car strikes you this way, chances are he's full of it, and as Red beauty pointed out, the stock turbos (or one replacement for the twins) are not going to cut it. 40 psi sounds easier on a big single turbo...

BTW, I wish people modded these cars a bit more (300ZX's)... Around where I live, they are treated very poorly, sunspotted and dented former beauties driven by some ***/hags for grocery duty.

I've always wanted a TT in their Pearl White color.

Ash isnt to far from you and his Z is pretty nice...I believe in the 700HP range.

any gas motor that runs at 40psi is a pretty hardcore little set up
if it looks like an average OEM car i doubt it makes 40 psi

first off two turbos making 20psi does not equal 40psi
if that were true 5 turbos would make 100 psi no
both turbos will need to make 40 psi, the diff being that two turbos in theroy will make a higher volume of air, not pressure. this dude is full of it that statement right there let me know he dont know what hes talking about.
