Default f-body 10 bolt question

Anybody here use an aftermarket posi unit with a 10 bolt rear end instead of a 12 bolt? I have a buddy considering his options but doesn't want to spend $2500 on a 12 bolt. Any help would be appreciated.

do these few things and yes you can make a 10bolt last!!!

weld the axle housing to the pumkin (you can see the seem that needs to be welded)
weld support braces(tubes) from the axle housing to the pumkin(like a gusset)
install and aftermarket girdle.

These three things are a budget way to promote longevity with a 10bolt. All three prevent deflection and twist in the housing during driving and launches. Which is the killer of 10 bolt posi carriers!

Do you have any pics of the welds? And wouldn't the aftermarket diff help the car hook?

yes it would and yes I can email you the pics. shoot me a pm!!!

the draw back to buying the new posi, is yes you can budget wise make a 10bolt stronger however it will still possibly break because the parts are all too small.

It really depends on how much power the car makes and how it is driven!

I agree deflection kills the 10-bolt, but no one ever twists an axle tube from the GM spot welds. They are fine, and I really don't think welding on the cast iron center would be a good idea.
