Florida Members - Stay A4 or go M6?

I'm either going built A4 or swap into an M6. I've been batteling over this forever now, all my cars before have been manuel, and i miss it, but i do like the ease of the A4 and the drag racing aplication. I havn't been in a stalled a4 yet, so i'd like to do that before i make a desicion. WHAT SHOULD I DO?! :bang:

M6 is my opinion but it all depends what you want. I like to have complete control so the M6 works perfect for me :) I wont ever own an A4 sports car.

depends on what you want to do with the veh. are you big time into drag racing ( 2-3 times a month at hte track)? are you willing to spend the money in the clutches and rear? to me, its a ton of money to swap trannys. believe me, i have done it.

Tough call ... love them both and have owned both on a Trans Am. I can recall many times in the recent past I would not have beat several cars from a stop or 1st gear roll if it weren't for my A4. Then again, from a low 2nd gear roll 40-50 mph, I've had some major struggles hanging with the M6 guys. As others say ... all depends on what you want most.

get a nice stall like THIS (http://ls1tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=688685). Both are fun but swapping is stupid expensive. Im piecing together a swap right now but if i had to do it over again i would just sell my car and buy a 6-speed.

stay auto too much money for a 6spd swap t56's arent cheap. Build the 4l60 and put a good stall they pull nice you just cant do topend runs like the 6spd guys though( just gets you in trouble though). just think about it its up to you.

you can do a stock t56 swap for around 1500 including everything. I did the m6 swap to my trans am and love rowing the gears

04-05-2007, 11:59 AM
1500 is worth it if you can find a swap for that much. Travis i need to take a ride in your car now that everything is done as well. I have to see how it rides lowered with the shocks.

I rode in it last night and its quite nice, i want mine to ride like that but i dont want mine sitting that low (personal preference).

Oh and stay auto, stall with nice shift extensions > M6 at track.
T, for the record, you have to focus on your personal situation. There are a pleathera of reasons performance-wise for either way with a proper setup however, I think the main reason you are leaning twords the M6 are the street activities- all of which when you stack up the huge investment either way is such a waste for the state to just take away from you in a flash.
Jacob, why am I making this PSA? Isn't this your job? :) I have to remind/ relearn this lesson everyday a fart can comes beside me-fortuneatly for me my daily driver is a harmless 02 4.8l RCSB Silverado whereas in your case T, the TA is your only ride. Stay safe.

I have an M6 Now, and thats what I prefer because all I do Is Daily Drive. I havent even been to the track in over a year. But If you're interested in better times at the track, I'd go Auto with a 3500 or 3800 Stall. My Friend has similar mods and HP as I do, and he gets slightly better times (and more consistent), and loves it on the street.
I'd just stay with whatever you have and improve on it. If A4, then go with a "healthy" sized Stall and Shift Kit. If M6, Get a good Shifter and Learn it well. Case Closed.

let me say fro the record 3.73 grears for an a4 is the only way to go plus a 2800 stall and you have a m6 killer is what you would have
02silvaZ
04-11-2007, 09:00 PM
hey andy i found a 2002 Z06 M6 tranny, it has alot closer gears than the f-body t56, check out the ratio diff in the two, my car with Z06 tranny plus 4:10's could equal A4 killer

02silvaZ
04-13-2007, 05:05 PM
can one of you auto guys clue me in on the difference in stall from 2500 thru 4000, what reasons would you use different levels of stall and why
2000badbird
04-13-2007, 05:08 PM
um what point the converter will flash to on a launch or stomping it 4000 will slip up to 4000rpm its kinda like slipping the clutch up to it get you in motion a lot quicker than leaving around 1700 or so what the stock converter is
2000badbird
04-13-2007, 05:09 PM
need for diffrent stalls are depending on what cam you use if you have a cam thats powerband is from 3500-7000 you would want a stall that is atleast 3500 stall it helps you leave in the powerband
02silvaZ
04-13-2007, 05:11 PM
so when i said if i had an A4 i would put 3:73's and a 2800 stall in it, would that be a good setup, say runnin' LS6 heads and cam ('02)
2000badbird
04-13-2007, 05:14 PM
yeah i would say that maybe a ls6 heads and the bigger 99-00 cam and a 3000 stall would be a little better but that matter of opinion
02silvaZ
04-13-2007, 05:16 PM
well i was thinkin of keepin real driveable and unnoticeable, good drivability and reliability
2000badbird
04-13-2007, 05:16 PM
yeah that would do it
02silvaZ
04-13-2007, 05:17 PM
i have very little knowledge on good A4 setups but i pay attention a little
2000badbird
04-13-2007, 05:27 PM
a4 is all ive ever raced or built you do pay good attetion a 3000 will not flash to 3000 unless you stomp it it has decient street driveablity

Got Me SOM
04-13-2007, 07:01 PM
exactly. you will hardly notice a difference with a 28-3000 stall. Put at least a 3500 in. It will drive fine.
staringback05
04-14-2007, 10:56 AM
there are alot of factors that go into picking a stall....everything from DD, to taking it to the track...

i cant decide either. I can get my 4L60 built for $1600 or i can get a complete m6 swap for $2k ..... i love M6 and have driven nothin but till this car... the auto has been very nice at the track though...... damit this is a hard decision... :(
