Default Read my bearings! Pics inside motor teardown!

Explained awhile ago about the "snowflake" appearance of the bearing on one of the main caps I pulled. Didn't really get a reply. Anyway, if anyone can comment on the main bearings and the crank I would appreciate it.

I think the crank is fine, but I'm not sure why the main bearings were so pitted or had these "flecks" in them. You can feel the pits with a fingernail. The crank is smooth.

Cylinder liners I'll grab pics of later. My camera battery died . They appear ok, but there are some "stains" on some of the walls.

Thx
John

where these factory bearings. Looks kind of like the pitting i have seen on bearings out of some menthol fueled engines I have took apart after a long race season where owners would not change oil regular enough to keep water in oil down. Have never seen it that bad on gas burning engines.

I agree with mc. Looks like water corrosion. Bearings are softer metal than crank so pitting is easier.

well I'm ok with that, since motor sat so long I can see where that would happen!
Do the liners look ok?
Really would like to just re-ring the pistons and slap it back together with some new bearings
thx

Def pitting on the bearings, Crank looks good BUT just because it looks ok does not mean it always is, While you have the engine out I would spend the extra $50 and take the crank to a known machine shop and have it mic'ed (just to be sure, you wouldnt want to spin a bearing and do this all over, do it right the first time!) and polished also while the crank and pistons are out I would give the cly's a good hone (you can rent a hone from autozone), then you should be good to go with some new rings and bearings

Depending on the type of ring used determines the grit on your honing tool. I would be carefull to observe the piston ring manufactures suggested grit before doing your honing.
