Default New Track Time



I'm not very impressed with what I ran. Especially since there wasn't much difference when I ran CAI only (in sig). The new time I ran and the CAI time were at the same track, same temperature (freezing), and same traction (didn't spin). My car is running perfect. I've done various tests beforehand and they exceed every one. What are your guy's thoughts?

i think you should go a little quicker than that but i will not be one of those guys that bash!considering you said it was freezing out it still does not tell us what your DA was,humidity and track conditions although you said you did not spin...
when i posted my time people bashed me to no end till they saw i live in vegas and my DA was 2700' and rather warm out with 15%humidity.
your MPH will be lower due to traction but your 60' will be better and your ET will also get lower.
do you have a tune on your pcm(madz,pcmforless)etc.? overall i would say the times are definately in the good area,i ran my buddies 97 ta droptop ramair with,slp shorties,catless y-pipe,cut-out,3.23s,2600 stall,52000 orig.miles..60'-2.082 1/8mi.-9.182 1/4-14.264 mph-96.53 and on a 125 dry shot it ran 12.41 @106

Well I'm trying to compair to last time I ran. It was the exact same weather condition. Not humid and it was about 35 degrees both times. The track's website says 20ft above sea level. Both times I just mashed it off the line, didn't stall it up or spin. I have a hypertech program (I know it sucks) only. In fact, I detuned it my second run and it was pretty much identicle.

I can pretty much assure you that you are probably getting a butt load of knock retard. When I installed my headers, I couldn't even get out of the 14s, but once I figured out a few things (new tune to desensitize the knock sensor and adjust my fuel pressure to 43 PSI instead of 65 PSI ), I am now running 13.24@104 with a 1.89 sixty. Try to get a scanner and see how much retard you are getting.

So my 60' is pretty good? Cool.. that's on my Nitto 555R's. I have a Yank SS3200 converter. Maybe I am getting knock retard.. I do have the lt4 module however. That could be why I feel a boost in power once I hit 90ish... but I figured it had something to do with the converter locking.

Trust me, an LT4 knock module might help with some knock retard, but it isn't enough. Get rid of the HPP3 and get a nice tune from a tuner of your choice. You will be a lot happier with your car. I had the LT4 KM before I got my tune and I was still seeing 8-9 degrees of retard.

Try to stall it up using the brakes, it may allow you to get in the power band quicker and aid that 60ft some? Spray that bish and that converter will flash higher and you'll love it.

Fixed the video now.. it has sound this time. I sure hope it is knock that is killing me. I would hate to find out my car truly runs what it did. I'm going to get a hold of a Tech 1 and see if I'm getting knock.

Yea, you should be close to the 12's with all that stuff in there, expecially with that 60'. I have a Hotcam with 3.73's, and you have a Stall with 3.42's, I am a whole second faster. It has to be your tune...

OK I finally got a hold of a scan tool and checked knock retard. At around 80-100mph it starts reading up to 10* knock retard. It's clear below that. However, I was punching it at various speeds and I got 7* from around 20mph (1st gear). Sometimes I would get a steady 1* while I'm working myself up to that 100mph speed. For the most part, the high speed 10* is the most noticeable part to worry about.

Are these numbers really high? Well I know they are high, but are they really that bad considering it's not throughout the whole entire power band.. only up top.

RedRyder518, when you said you were getting 8-9* of knock retard, was it at a certain speed like mine? I'm wondering if my 1/4 mile will improve a lot since, for example, it's not 9* for the whole 1/4 mile run.

You shouldn't be getting any Knock retard at all.. something is up with your Gas or EGR, possibly need new Knock Sensor, Tune adjustment, something..

What would be the issue if my EGR is messed up? Like being open at WOT or something? I will check that out and make sure it stays closed at WOT. Since I'll have the Tech 1 for a few days, what should I pay close attention to?

If you are getting Knock Retard, you have detonation. Could be you are too lean, the 02's could be out, EGR could be open, MAF could be messed up. Usually when the MAF is out, it's richer though.

knock retard does not necessarily mean detonation. it could be false knock. run some race gas 100+ and scan it again, if you get the same reading then it most likely is false knock and can be tuned out. false knock is fairly common with a loud exhaust (lt headers etc)

since you say it ran the same with only cai that might be what it is (since you wouldn't have had any false knock with the stock exhaust).

You think it's actually real knock? Not false knock??
I just recently got a new o2 sensor because it's voltage was steady and wasn't going rich-lean. The other was fine. I'll do more testing tomorrow and see if anything else is wrong. I'm hoping a tune will cure everything.

That is amazing, you definitely have something going on there.

My Z hit high 13's stock with average 60's.
With a 1.8X 60 I would expect you to be low 13's with your mods.

Good luck ralls, I would put on a LT4 Knock Module as fast as you can get your hands on one.
