Good Camera
What are some takes on the best cameras around in the 3-400 dollar range? I'm looking to buy my gf a new camera for her birthday, and just wanted to get some ideas. It's a way down the road, but she's bad *** and I need to start thinking about it now.

I have a Sony Cybershot DSC-H2, It's just under $400, but its not very small. I like it. It's no SLR but it does very good for what I use it for.
I figure she'd want a small one, to fit in her pocketbook or something. Mine wouldn't work if that is a priority.

Thanks. I was looking for a detachable lens camera. I took photography in high school and loved my Nikon N65. It wasn't digital though since we had to do our own developing and printing, so the technology is kind of outdated. My ex-gf and her friend stole/sold it. Unfortunately, I didn't find out till after we broke up. Weird story. Even weirder ex-gf. HAHA.

I think to get a detachable DSLR you have to move up to the $600-800 range. The only advice I can give is make sure the manufactures film auto focus lens will fit their DSLR. Then you can save some $ on assitional lens later. BTW Minolta auto focus lens will fit the Sony A1 DSLR
