Stroke length of stock ls1
hey guys i have this assignment for one of my classes that i need to find the stroke of my engine (ls1) and then use that measurement to find the piston speed at 5000rpms.

alright nice...ok so the length is 3.622"...now...how would i figure out the avg. piston speed at 5000rpms? I know that the stroke length is involved in the answer...but im not sure how to figure it out

ha well unfortunately we have to figure out the piston speed mathematically. Any of you guys know the formula to figure it out? I would assume that the piston speed would be fastest just before BDC because at BDC the piston speed would be 0 because its starting to go back up. So i would think the formula would have something to do with half the stroke? but idk....any help before 1pm would be awesome!

To calculate the piston speed, you take the stroke ( 3.622 " )
You consider that it is going up 5000 times per minute and down 5000 times per minute, so you multiply it times 2 and you get 36220 inches per minute ( 18110 inches each way ).
Divide that by 12 and you get 50.3 feet per second.
