Default Diesel Engine Oil?

Does anybody here use it in their car? I do and have been since i've had it pretty much cause my dad is a farmer so I just use his oil for free. He says that you can use diesel oil in gas engines but not gas oil in diesel engines. So I was just wondering if anybody uses it in their cars.

I used Rotella T 15-40 in my LT1 (150K on it when I got it) and oil pressure stayed the same/dropped 1psi or so (Guy had been running 20-50 Castrol GTX and changed it about as often as most people clean and lubricate their T-top seals, lol). For the first 4 oil changes I did them 500 miles apart and the first 2-3 resulted in pudding in the oil-filter pretty much. After that the oil got pretty clear for the miles I put on it. Car never seemed to use any.

My dad has driven around 5 million miles (Owned an oversize load escort company since the 70's-97'ish). He used everything from Quaker state (pure crap) to Amsoil (he is a former dealer of the stuff). Said the best oil he ever used was 15-40 Rotella T. The last million miles or so he drove he did so using that stuff. He got around 200-250K out of his Crown Vic's using it (4.6 and 5.0) and this is AFTER buying them from the police dept. and them getting the crap flogged out of them.

Before the very end of his time in the business after every motor failure/retirement he would pull them apart and inspect what went wrong/how it looked. The engines he ran Rotella in always were the cleanest and didnt show any more wear on the cyl-wals than the Amsoil/Mobil 1 engines. The worst by far was the Quaker State which had crap all in the motor and in the middle was GTX, Pennzoil, ect. He said they did well, nothing wrong with them, the Rotella was just a bit better.

He beat the **** out of those cars escorting too, 60-110 sprints all the time to catch bridges, ect. and block them off for the load.

All that being said, in my LS1 I use 0-30 GC because it shows the best wear results IN AN LS1. However I did see a LS2 on BITOG where the guy cut his wear in HALF from 5-30 M1 to 15-40 Rotella T. The car was making around 500whp. Me? I will stick to my 0-30GC in my WS6 and the 15-40 Rotella T in my 302 mustang.

PS. Your dad is kinda correct, you CAN use gas oil in a Diesel but it may well lead to deposit built-up and sludge. Diesle oils have a lot more detergent in them. (PS. I hate spelling "Diesel" because it is one of those words that seems to always jack with my spelling abilities )

I've seen quite a few people recently running M1 5w40 diesel oil in their LS1. I have not seen any test/wear results though.

Diesel oil basically has a better/more heat resistant add-pack (90% of the diesels on the road today are turbo and the oil is formulated with that in mind) and more detergents.
