So there i was on the freeway, i look to my rear mirror and i see this evo mr with the spikes on the back roof (dont know if its stock, im guessing not because it had a fart can and racing stickers etc, you know, rice stuff) i turn hazard lights on and he knew it was on... he pulls up next to me and i stomp on it and he never caught up! i felt so sorry for him that i didnt want an easy kill! i barely see these cars so i made the most of it and waited for him to catch up. i coulda killed him easily but i wanted to keep it exciting and just purposely held as much as half a car length to a car length. he was trying so hard... and i was teasing him with shit eating grins! he never lead the way. it was so easy! i was super stoked! still am actually! you guys were right about how they suck on a roll... they really suck. he sucked so bad he just quit and drove like a grandma... oh and get this, my car mods? nothing... BONE STOCK! 100% BONE STOCK! :judge:

i'm not sure... i'm not too in touch with evos but, it was lightish blue, it had a little hood scoop, it had those spikes on the roof, it had an "MR" decal. let me know what model you think it is though... i wanna know if its like the lower or higher end of evos.
whats funny is when i asked about evos on this forum, you guys said i can beat them on a roll, i believed it, but i didnt know it was gonna be that EASY... it was a little too EASY... i felt embarrassed for him. my car is 100% bone stock a4 98 t/a straight from the factory w/ 54k on the clock and it is not a ws6 and no ram air... i want a functional ram air hood though.

The "little spikes on the roof" are stock. And yeah, they are fairly weak from a roll (compared to their 1/4 mile performance).

Also as far as the MR goes, i think the MR in recent years has been sort of a "stripper" model, and in future years will be a more powerful model, don't quote me on that.

The top of the line Evo is the MR, it has more hp and torque than the regular evo, it also has the shark fins on the rear.

These "super fast evos" that everyone always talks about seem to be more in their imagination that in reality.
They'd have you believe that every Evo out there looks stock and runs 11's. The reality is that for every 10 Evos you come accross about 1 will actually be fast and the other 9 will be relatively close to stock.
And from a roll, yes, they are a joke. Its a 235WHP 3300lb box on wheels, what else should you expect. Obviously anthing can change with mods, but thats true for any vehicle.

the mr is top dog in the evo world. they have the same power, but a 6spd, better suspension, and they are lighter. my buddy has a full bolt on, with boost controler and HKS cams. his car is quick as f*ck right now, after his tune, and some meth, he is looking at low 12's to high 11's. good kill. i think i felt the same after my first race against a bolt mustang GT. good luck and watch out.

my Viper weighs 3380 pounds from the factory and has 440/482 rwhp SAE and he can stay pretty much right beside me from 50-150 mph...
Most h/C fbodies are right around 400 rwhp and 3450 pounds...So id honestly put my money on him..

well i dynoed at 418awhp on low boost and a horrible burnt slipping stock clutch..
now with new clutch,resurfaced flywheel and new 2.5in upper piping going in fri.its probably got more..
hopefully see you saturday..i got a really bad boost leak and cant seem to find it anywhere...all my lines are connected etc...ill let you know

Ricers ALWAYS have an excuse as to why they dyno'd lower than they should have, or ran a lower time than they should have.
You can never just say straight up numbers, theres always some bullshit excuse, "my MIVEC wasn't MIVECING, I was low on boost, it was a hot day, my clutch was slipping, I had a boost leak, ect".

EVOs have my total respect. I would have bought one in a heartbeat if I had the money. They respond great to mods and it's very easy to put one into the 11's. You can run your mouth all day about how much crap a foriegn car is. bottom line almost all cars have flaws....our cars came with 10 bolts...not to mention the wonderful idea that was optispark. Take 30 k and go buy a new car with a warranty that will perform like an evo or STi on a road track, and be a great daily driver. 1/4 mile may not be an evo's strongest point from the factory but as for handling they are amazing. Not everybody wants just a car that can go in a straight line really fast...I'm not trying to bash anybody's F-body I own one too and i love it. Just making points.

Most people don't have a few grand to dump into a car when they are already making payments in a 35K car as it is. Not only that, but most are people's primary cars, so modding the hel out of it, killing your fuel economy, and braking drivetrain parts aren't exactly things they would like to do.

i gave signalS. i looked back with my head out the window, i waved, i flashed my hazard lights a couple of times, he zoomed next to me ( he knew what i wanted) and he began to start without giving me any warning. then i started. i lead. i was never behind. then when he slowed down and quit i got next to him again and honked 3 times. but he just gave up... :chug:

btw i've been through the whole eve thing, RPS twin carbon clutch, Buschur race FMIC, Aem EMS, 37r, c16, meth, full drag suspension, full hard pipes.... you name it is was on the car.

never got it to the 1/4 track, we only have Cali speedway that open every 6 weeks or so and is limited to 400 cars (most civic) not worth waiting 8 hours for 3 runs.
we have 4 local 1/8 tracks though... just stuck to those most of the time

i was launching my car at 7500rpm and shifting at 8700 on stock head and shortblock.
My motor still pulls 140's on compression test and has 0 blow by.

MAGNUS box is only 5500, better than having to buy rebuild at 2k and blowing a shaft and having to buy a new mitsu trans at 3500, Getrag doesn't sell replacement gears or shafts, you need an new trans or buy a parts trans from a wrecked evo..... thats one of the reasons i got out of the evo racing scene.

I know Evo's arent the best from a roll, but I highly doubt you were able to just play with his ass. My buddy is on his third Evo (Highly modded 03, a stock 06 MR, and a decently modded 06 MR currently) so I know about how they run. I know that with nothing more than a turboback exhaust, an intake, a boost controller and a tune he stays right with me when I am with O/R Mids, catback, and a diablosport all the way up to 140.

One of my good friends has a Evo 8 w/ a Turbo Swap, pretty damn fast, he makes around 440whp. As far as Evo 9's go, with bolt on's I've heard they are very responsive. Got to give them props for there potential, would'nt exacty classify them as ricers. Just my personal opinion. Not saying I would buy one but I give it credit where credit is due.

the MR is not always the faster one...only thing different is bilstein shocks,VG,BBS wheels,and other minor things i believe..
if anything the RS is probably faster it being the lighter of all 3 models...aluminum roof(i believe),no p/w,no p/l,no radio,no trunk liner etc...
and MRs only came in white,GG,black and red i believe...the MR is overated.

They'd have you believe that every Evo out there looks stock and runs 11's. The reality is that for every 10 Evos you come accross about 1 will actually be fast and the other 9 will be relatively close to stock.
And from a roll, yes, they are a joke. Its a 235WHP 3300lb box on wheels, what else should you expect. Obviously anthing can change with mods, but thats true for any vehicle.

good kill viper! That fool must not have know how to drive. The key to making an evo a good roll racing machine is to build boost with some heel/toe footwork. I could eaisly build up 28lbs @ 3200rpms with my stock turbo 04 evo. As soon as you get off the brake (in second gear) it would give you a serious push.

I raced a friends bone stock 2004 EVO from a slow roll when I was bone stock and had him by 2 lengths to 90 mph and 1 1/2 lengths from a dig to about 115 or so. I love how people say ls1's aren't fast. Sure a modded EVO can beat a stock LS1 but so can a modded civic. But stock for stock they are very similar with an EVO having the advantage from a dig and an LS1 from a roll. Bottom line I spent 7500.00 on my Formula and my Buddy spent over 30k. I won!!! I'll take the Formula thanks. Don't get me wrong I like the EVO but SOME of the people driving them are goofs.

True, but what people dont realize is theres alot of difference in Evo model years. Its like comparing a auto LT1 to a M6 LS1. Theres almost a full second difference in the 1/4 and 5-6mph in the traps between a '03-'04 Evo and a new '06 model. A 2004 Evo would be the slowest of the models we have over here.
True but I have the 2.73's in the rear which are the slowest LS1 available.

i wouldnt go as far as saying a "couple car lenghts" now the VIII im not sure what id dynos at,never dynoed mine stock.i know the IX have dynoed about 263awhp stock(at least here in hawaii)
and a evo will have lag but with stock turbo it starts to spool fairly quick.i dont think a stock LS1 with get a couple car lenghts on it..

There is no "turbo lag" between shifts. Also gearing plays a huge role, Evo's have 4.59 gears in them which mated to a high redline equals a car that pulls alot harder then alot of cars with more hp. Also have to take into consideration weight.

We're talking about a 50WHP difference, and 165lbs.
3450lbs - 3285lbs = 165lbs
Plus the LS1 has the much better powerband and better top end power.
From a dig it would be close, because the Evo can launch harder. But from a roll, it shouldn't even be a race.

This would make more sense. I dont see a stock evo beating a stock LS1. They're rally cars people, not drag cars. Modded all bets are off, but stock the EVO is an excellent corner cutter, and I'd put money on a stock EVO assraping a stock Fbod around a track with all things being equal. Unless you powershift the car, you are going to lose boost between shifts.
So unless you like destroying clutches and synchros, you're going to have turbo lag between shifts.

you just upset cus its been done and you didnt think it could..
actually one did 263awhp and the other did 259awhp...a new evo IX is quicker then you think..

Well hears one guys opinion..
My 2004 C5 when bone stock was 3310 pounds acording to the registration and dynoed 299 rwhp/309 rwt SAE. it was a auto with2.73 gears.
I frequented the drag strip 2-3 times per month all year long. on one particular night anEvo club/group showed up at the strip that was 10 deep.
out of the 10..3 of them were bone stock. Well wer talked for a little while and then lined up one by one..
My stock auto C5 vrs 3 different stock evo's..
I ran 13.5-13.7 at 102-103 mph against each of them.
They ran in the 13.9-14.2 range at 97-99 mph..
what I observed was that they would pull 1-2 cars on me till around 70 mph. Since i gteched my car bone stock 0-60 in 4.9 seconds at the drag strip many times...Id estimate they were hitting 0-60 mph in the 4.5 range..
But by 70 mph I was back beside them and then would just walk away by 3-4 cars before the end of the 1/4 mile, ending up with a mid 13 vrs their high 13..
So IMHO a LS1 Will defiently walk away from an EVO with equal drivers..
then again my stock C5 was a bit quicker than the stock fbodies at the track. The manual fbodies seemed to run in the 13.7-13.9 at 103-104 range bone stock while the auto fbodies seemed to run in the 13.8-14.0 at 100-101 mph range bone stock..So not too much faster than the stock Evo's but still faster mph's..
So while theri very comparable in the 1/4 mile the LS1 will pull the Evo on the freeway no question..
lots of people like to talk about thenew Evo's with 260 rwhp and how they can trap 105-106..
fbodies trapped up to 108 mph back in 1998. c5's trapped up to 110 mph back in 1997..
just my honest opinion..that a 300 rwhp 3450 pound manual fbody will walk even the new 260 awhp 3290 pound Evo from 60-130

i can got to the www.808evo.com board right now and most of them trap under 110 mph at our track even with lots of mods..
Your car trapped 123 and has 425 awhp on pump gas wich is well above average for are area...
What IM TRYING TO SAY IS THAT WHILE tHE DESTROYER IS A AWESOME MACHINE. your Evo brethernarent exactly representing and who ever has this stock evo will be heading towards a loss against a stock LS1..
Now i think that if we can find a bone stock 2004 auto LS1 GTO then the Evo will have a good chance.
MAYBE WE SHOULD JUST LOOK FOR ONE OF THOSE INSTEAD OF AN FBODY TO MAKE IT CLOSER......

someone said the LS1 has 290-300hp,and the evos usually dyno 260awhp plus or minus...now the evos weigh in at at about 3295lbs or so..
like i said to resolve this i will find a stock evo and a stock ls1 camaro and film it...with camera man in one car and passenger in the other.

A heads cam car is not minor..
He could be 380 rwhp..He could be 460 rwhp..Just depends on his heads and cam selection..
Granted he needs to have an pretty extreme set up to run with you or weight reduction..I still would never take a head/cam Fbody lightly..
That cammed LS2 GTO that ran the other night that had 420 rwhp wasnt that fast. but thats because he was in a 3800 pound GTO..
Put 420 rwhp in a 3450 pound Fbody and it will be MUCH closer..
The 408 we raced IS NOT 500 rwhp. His dynoright now is 473 standard ( wich is actually around 460 SAE)
A true 500 rwhp SAE WS6 would crush us both at this point by 2-3 cars on the freeway..
1FASTTRANSAM is a kool guy. but until he has a dyno of 500 rwhp SAE we cant say that we can run even with/pull a 500 rwhp 408..
Im sure once all the tunings done and everythings worked out he'll have 500 rwhp and we'll need a lil more mods/power to hang.
But as of right now he's 460 rwhp SAE

well he says its over 500/500 now...but no dyno sheets...but i wouldnt be worried if he has over 500rwhp...id still run him again..and i doubt he would take my by 2-3 cars on the freeway at that point
i really wanted to run rex in his camaro..with him on NOS too...i talked to my buddy lloyd about what he thought of that camaro.

And I dont think were quite at that level yet..

i truely believe my car will trap over 125mph...easy....like i said even on pump gas,22psi,race map( should have been on pump..so some things are tuned different which may have hurt me) and absolutely no launching and hawaiis horrible horrible track i did 123mph like i mentioned before.
and from what ive heard you should take off e.t and add mph to your times for hawaii to meet mainland tracks...
i honestly think that with the right set up(pump gas,right boost,right tune) and a launch and quick shifting it will do 125mph+)call me crazy but i think so.and that nite i had almost a full tank of gas...
i absolutely love the car and set up..its the only awd car ive been in that car break loose sometimes when i dump second...and while we were tuning race gas i couldnt even keep it in my lane.
and this is upgrade turbo on stock block etc...i cant wait for pistons,rods,head,etc...

not sure if i should go for a built 2.0L which is better for drag and can rev to 9000-10000 rpm...or go with a stroker kit(2.3L) and not rev as high(8500 or so) but give me a lot of torque...i think the 2.0L is what ill go with.cus both will help spool me quicker but a high revving motor is always good and its a cheaper build..pistons,rods,bearings,etc...the stroker is $2300 or so when i can build my 2.0 for cheaper
once that is done and head,bigger turbo,intake manifold,dual fuel rails,etc etc.then it will be ugly,very very ugly..lol,if i keep same turbo with that set up should lay down 630awhp-650awhp if i upgrade turbo im looking at 710awhp or so

Just installing the AEM will not automatically give you any more HP. In fact, if the base tune on the box is not a good one its gonna run like crap. You wont notice anything till its tuned properly.

I know who is installing it. That same guy installed and tuned the AEM on Gus's stealth. At the track he was running at 114-115 mph. Couldnt turn the boost up because the tune was crap. This is from months of tuning. John came and in ONE night of tuning Gus went to the track and trapped at 130 mph. Thats over 150 rwhp gain from just the tune. So you take that how you will...

I was there the night the recent race with 1fasttransam, my car was marking the end, I was there when the trans am was dynoed; his car hit 473 with the dyno operator only taking the car to 5800rpm, not reaching the redline or close. Yes the tune is still not completley dialed in either for lack of a professional tuning shop here on island. It's pretty close to 500rwhp now.
Destroyer: Your car is fast, but I never heard your turbo spool up that night, I was waiting for it. The first race was the closest, but you BOTH took off too soon after the minivan rolled out and speedy had to back out to avoid running over it, you had him by a fender to half car on that race. The second race you got him by about a car and a half, he said that he lost traction when he shifted and had to let off to get control again. I know that he is also taking it easy on his rearend right now to avoid snapping an axle or breaking welds and twisting the tubes on the DR's; the car is his daily driver too.
I want to make sure that you don't think that I'm down playing the race or your ride, you get my resptect for the mods and the driving I've witnessed your car is no joke. Although I prefer American Muscle to the littler imports, I can appreciate the time and effort as well as money you've invested in tweaking your car and getting it to where it is now.
If 1fasttransam gets his tune dialed in correctly, I know that he can give you a very good run for your money, it would be a good race to see.

thanks...well trust me my turbo was spooling and it spools hard...it might have been my wastegate you were hearing..its very loud and external dump.the turbo with external dump sounds nothing like internal...i rode in a evo in florida with same mods as me but internal dump and it sounds like a turbo..(may sound funny) when i pound mine it sounds nothing like a turbo(at least from the inside) i think its the dump is all you hear..
but thanks for the respect.thats what i like to hear..i went there that nite to do that..show what my car can do..and that its not you "typical" hawaii import...maybe ill see you around again
