Special Edition Vehicles - 2001 camaro ss vs. 2001 corvette

I kno both vehicles have an ls1 motor. But what extras under the corvette's hood makes it faster exactly? I would like to upgrade at least to the point where Im just as fast or faster than a vette.

Its not what upgrades, its the power to weight ratio. Our Camaros are heavier than the vette hence the vette is usually faster but if the vette guy can't drive for crap and the camaro guy is a good driver the camaro has a chance.

SuperSport4life is pretty much spot on... the same driver in both cars... the vette should win everytime based on power to weight... but if the vette guy can't drive then the SS can beat it.

Doing the basic bolt on mods will add enough power that even a decent driver in a non-Z06 '01 vette won't be as fast as the SS. The basic mods are lid/filter, headers, cat-back, and pulley... those mods will put a solid 30-40 more hp down... which will make up for the weight disadvantage.

The power to weight of the vette is better than the F-body. However, not always as much as you'd think. Hot Rod mag did a dyno on the 99 Vette and TA and the TA actually had 292 RWHP and the Vette had around 280 RWHP. Add 20-25% and that gives you the gross numbers. That puts the TA at around 350 HP, and the Vette around 335 HP. I need to scan the article. Don't know the explanation, neither did they other than GM's desire to put the Vette at the top of the food chain.

hmm thats strange i thought all 98 and up LS1 vettes where 355HP stock, my friends M6 ss would get destroyed by stock a4 c5's up top down low where ever. It would jsut walk by us at any speed, the SS had borla, lid, and a good clutch.


and NO! our f bodies or anyones f bodies stock in any form are not faster than C5 vettes stock in any form......

and Hot Rod mag is a joke, the same morons to drop 8 grand into a 91 firebird only to get 18hp more?!?!?! o ya but they say the driveability is much improved :eyes:

on a recent issue of hotrod they put in an ATI procharger and had an increase of less that 50 hp... on an LS engine...
