Default 4L60E No 3rd or 4th

As the title says in D or Low 3 the car just runs up like it's in N. I hooked up HP Tuner and got into the Manual Gear Select mode. 1st 2nd and 4th were all audible. Clicks for each one. I click 3rd and I don't hear anything. Could it be a solenoid problem? The low transmission fluid light is also on but there's plenty of fluid in it with the car running and warm... I've got the service manuals and I'm getting ready to try and diagnose this bear. Just wondering if you guys have any experience in the problem.

Most likely not a solenoid. They pair up 1-4 and 2-3 so you would be missing two gears. Try unplugging the 13 pin connector to the trans and seeing if it runs, the 4L60E will hydraulically run in 3rd with no computer control, that would help you rule out electrical problems.

Thanks a lot for the input fellas! Performabuilt, the car drives in D as well. It just feels like N when it gets enough speed to try 3rd. I'll unplug that plug first, thanks for the advise.

Do you have manual 1st , 2nd or reverse? I do not think that this is a solenoid problem. Vince

Sounds like the same thing that has happened with my other two tranny's... I had to get a rebuild.

I do have 1st, 2nd, and Reverse yes. I'm not sure about overdrive, without 3rd it's difficult to gauge if 4th is operational. 3rd in low or D feels like it just got bumped up into N... No jittery slipping feeling, nothing. Just a quick rev as if there was no load on the motor.

I may have miss understood do you mean it will move in all positions but will neutral on the 2-3 shift , If so you have a failed 3-4 clutch

A failed 3-4 clutch or a broken input drum.

Same just happened to me at the beginning of the month. It was the 3-4 clutch pack. I went with a Cahall Performance Pro Race setup and it pulls like a b*itch.. very sweet!

same happened to me late novermber.... trannys gone time for a new one. i got a rebuild for 1500 which was a good deal but it usually costs most 1800 or so... if i were you i would highly consider looking into spending a few hundred more and getting a strong performabuilt or FLT, if i had known back then what i do now i would have never wasted my time getting my 4l60e rebuilt. oh well ill just have to take care of it till it goes again (at 1500+ bux hopefully not for a while lol)
