Default BROKEN VALVE SPRING QUESTION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Could someone please explain to me what this sounds like? I went for a ride today, and when I got home, my car was making some kind of noise, but it's kind of hard to describe. It wasn't knocking, or tapping, but more like a gasp for air or something. Is this bad? I have stock heads, and a 112lsa cam with the infamous 941 springs, and titanium retainers.

No idea, but I would just pull off the valve covers just to make sure before anything else.

I know that's probably the easiest way, but I really don't have a lot of time, and I was just hoping that someone who has experienced it first hand could explain the sound for me.

Thanks!

You dont have time to take a valve cover off? Do you have time to take a head off? I hope so cause if it is a spring that valve is gonna drop and you will be wishing you would have spend 30 minutes taking off the valve cover. I dont think its a valve cover though, sounds like a exhaust leak. I would your AIR tubes.

Usually if you break a spring you will get misfires for that cylinder, and sometimes will cause misfires on the reamining cylinders on that side of the engine. If you broke a spring, the car will run rough. There may be no audible clue to a broken spring.

when mine broke it sounded like the exhaust was puffing(sorta like it was a peice of paper in there or something). But that was just from where it was firing on only 7 cylinders. If you have atap check for misfires. I had like 100 on my broken cyl under current history.

But i had crappy idle and the car was hard to start.

I broke an intake spring which did not allow the valve to close, so the cylinder was not able to compress and/or burn the charge. Idle was very ruff and there was a big drop in power.

i just broke a 941 also. it has an internal dampner that will hold the valve up, but not keep it seated under cylinder compression. if its an intake spring, it will sound like it is missing @ idle and kinda bog when you rev it. i had ZERO misfires when this happend to me. i pulled the valve covers and missed it w/ a visual. it took me pulling the rockers and pushing down and also turning the springs (till i found one the would push down and turn by hand) to find it.
